Position description / overview:

This role reports into the Head: Academics, and has 8 subordinates. It is a WFH (work from home) role, with intermittent travel required as and when needed.

 

The core focus of this role is to:

- Ensure the execution of sound teaching and learning practices, in the Short Course Department.

- Increase student participation and throughput rates to culminate in a successful student experience.

- Drive towards increased digitization of learning experiences in the Short Course Department.

- Manage the human capital of the Short Course Department, to ensure high quality deliverables.

 

Minimum Requirements:

- Degree (NQF 7) in the Business Management discipline OR Honours degree with a postgraduate qualification in education

- A postgraduate qualification in a Business Management discipline or a cognate field will be advantageous

- eLearning development courses completed

 

Minimum work experience:

- Six years teaching/lecturing at a recognised tertiary institution in the field of Business Management or a cognate discipline.

- Successful track record in the operational management of a high student volume digitised learning environment.

- Successful track record in the operational management of lecturing staff.

- Proven track record in executing online teaching and learning.

- Previous application of learning management systems, such as Moodle, Blackboard, etc, and other relevant digital education technologies.

- Familiarity with the role of technology in education management and course delivery.

- Previous experience in leading successful change initiatives and projects in education.

- Managing executive and external stakeholder relationships.

 

Responsibilities / Functional Accountabilities:

Teaching and Learning

- Ensure the successful preparation and execution of teaching and learning plans and practices, by all course lecturers, to ensure successful cohort performance.

- Lead the production and expansion of digital assets in support of teaching and learning.

- Drive a successful student experience through improvement to our academic service levels to students.

- Review and quality assure lecturers performance throughout the cohorts and evaluate quality of content.

- Implement continuous improvement strategies to improve throughput rates within all short course programmes.

- In collaboration with the course lecturers, implement strategies to support students at risk.

- In collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, ensure the successful roll out of new short course programmes.

- Report on measures taken in respect of student performance improvement and monitoring.

 

Management and coordination of people

- Ensure lecturers are in place for programmes as per the human resource and programme allocation plan.

- Be a critical inductor to new lecturing staff to ensure they are orientated and able to seamlessly begin teaching on short course programmes.

- Be the critical contact point for part time lecturers.

- Coordinate the full time and part time lecturer’s duties and responsibilities to ensure quality of teaching is maintained.

- Work with Faculty management to ensure adequate and talented employees are recruited.

- Ensure policy compliance within the lecturer pool.

 

Leadership and Management

- Monitor financial resource allocation in the short courses, to ensure efficient expenditure in line with budgetary requirements.

- Ensure continuous training and development of full and part-time course lecturers to increase competence in the use of Institutional systems and teaching and learning practices.

- Conduct quarterly reviews of lecturers’ performance as part of the continuous assessment and remuneration framework.

- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure departmental success metrics are achieved.

- Prepare and present reports at various Institutional forums, on the performance of the short course programmes.

Computer / Digital Skills:

- Demonstrable competencies in MS Office Suite.

- Proficiency in basic data analytics and reporting.

- eLearning authoring and content production tools.

- Moodle LMS.

- Multimedia software.
