POSITION INFO:

NOTE: 5 Months Fixed Term Contract vacancies with immediate effect.Â

Main purpose of the job:

  • To provide holistic nursing care to clients seeking COVID-19 care and/ or vaccination through the Eastern Cape Department of Health Vaccination scale-up program

Location:

  • Eastern Cape Department of Health (Joe Gqabi, Alfred Nzo, and OR Tambo Districts)

Key performance areas:

  • Supervise Covid 19 screening
  • Ensure that Vaccination Site Layout conforms with Standards set by NDoH with proper demarcations
  • Screen health problems and diseases in accordance with prescribed Norms and Standards
  • Maintain a Therapeutic Relationship and Environment in which Health Care can be provided Optimally and Safely
  • Monitor Vaccination Process at Vaccination Site
  • Vaccination sites must comply with the following general requirements:
  • - Must be easily accessible to the clients
  • - Be arranged in such a way that social distancing can be maintained in both waiting areas and at vaccination stations
  • - Vaccination sites must establish and implement a mechanism of setting up appointments to prevent crowding
  • - Designate separate Entry and Exit points if possible
  • - Maintain a professional and ethical practice as well as an enabling environment for ethical practice
  • - Protect and advocate the rights of patients regarding health care
  • - Compliance and adherence to the relevant acts/prescripts applicable within the nursing environment
  • - Apply the principles of nursing care in service rendering, for the maintenance of professional excellence
  • - Implement nursing care management activities according to the Standards of Practice and Scope of Practice and act upon breaching of laws relating to nursing practice and professional code of conduct and practice standards
  • - Implement procedures that maintain effective infection control and occupational and safety measures in accordance with Occupational Health & Safety legislation
  • - Communicate with the multi-disciplinary health teams, organizations, and special interest groups when dealing with community health issues and needs
  • - Participate in the dissemination of information on the COVID epidemic
  • - Participate in health promotion and illness prevention initiatives
  • - Implement nursing interventions to achieve expected outcomes
  • - Prepare and submit regular reports to the supervisor
  • - Manage queries and complaints from the users of the service
  • - Vaccine stock must be controlled and to minimize unnecessary wastage
  • - Maintain Accountability and Responsibility for Nursing Care Activities
  • - Report maintenance of equipment
  • - Manage and ensure proper utilization of allocated resources (staff, vehicles, ICT equipment, etc.)

Required minimum work experience:

  • Minimum 2 years training experience

Required minimum education and training:

  • Grade 12 and Professional Nursing Diploma or equivalent
  • A post-graduate degree will be an added advantage
  • South African Nursing Council (SANC)and proof of current registration with SANC

Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities:

  • Knowledge of Covid 19 safety protocols
  • Have a basic understanding of the vaccines
  • Ensure that vaccination sites are suitable, equipped, and comply with applicable legislation, policies and guidelines, nursing statutes, and other relevant legal frameworks
  • Tactful, respectful, and maintain confidentiality
  • Good administrative skills. Able to work under pressure and adhere to deadlines
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to play a professional leadership role
  • Must be willing to travel to various sites as necessary
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure environment, flexible, and able to work after hours and weekends
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages, ability to put together reports
