A Professional Nurse - 12 Hours Per Week vacancy is available at our Client, Wits Health Consortium's Wits Clinical Research (WCR) in Johannesburg - Gauteng.

Background

WITS CLINICAL RESEARCH (WCR) is a division of the WITS HEALTH CONSORTIUM (PTY) LTD, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg (South Africa) under the Wits Faculty of Health Sciences.

With WHC providing the core infrastructure, WITS CLINICAL RESEARCH is free to focus on conducting quality research in the fields of cardiology, cardiovascular risk factors (hypertension, smoking cessation, obesity, hypercholesterolemia, and diabetes), endocrinology, rheumatology, oncology, infectious diseases, respiratory, nephrology, gastroenterology, urology, surgery, vaccines and general medicine.

Our team of dedicated physicians and site staff is based at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital and the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital in order to cover the high-density population located in the City of Johannesburg to the greatest extent. This large geographical coverage, along with an extensive patient database, and passionate recruiters at academic and government hospitals, day hospitals and local physicians, ensure successful patient enrolment in the studies at WCR.
Adherence to Good Clinical Practice Guidelines (ICH GCP) and South African Guidelines is first and foremost at WCR, and site Standard Operating Procedures reflect this commitment.

Main purpose of the job

  • To perform clinical trial procedures according to good clinical practice, the study protocol and the site standard operating procedures
  • Manage the treatment room while drug administrations occur

Location

  • Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Hospital & Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital

Key performance areas

  • Administration of study-related medications i.e. chemotherapy, immunotherapy, etc. (IVI, IMI, SC, etc.)
  • Able to manage medical emergencies within scope of practice
  • Conduct trial activities in line with Study Protocol and GCP
  • Attend Investigator meeting, SIV and any other in-person or virtual training to manage the study as delegated and arranged
  • Ensure access to online portals as delegated
  • Proactively resolve protocol queries and missing data with Investigators and other site staff
  • Prepare for and manage participant visits in line with protocol and site SOP’s
  • Assist in patient recruitment, screening and enrolment of eligible patients according to protocol requirements
  • Manage study samples according to protocol, procedures manual and local legislature (i.e., Phlebotomy, Stool Samples, Swabs, etc.)
  • Notify relevant parties of Serious Adverse Events or Events of Medical Importance within 24 hours
  • Quality control of patient files and data entries (i.e eCRF’s, CRF’s)
  • Ensure safe and tidy work environment (Treatment and Procedure rooms)
  • Assist the Pharmacist with visit activities (IVRS, IP management, etc.)

Required minimum education and training

  • Nursing Diploma (or equivalent) Certification with Oncology training and experience necessary
  • Good clinical practice (GCP) will be an advantage

Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities

  • Registration with SANC

Required minimum work experience

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in medical oncology
