SUMMARY:
A South African PET and HDPE plastic bottle supplier, with a nationwide distribution network and built by passion, has an opportunity for a Plant/Production Manager with experience in plastic packing manufacturing. Candidates must have experience in this environment to qualify for this opportunity.
POSITION INFO:
The Plant Manager will oversee the production, maintenance, and quality assurance functions. This professional multi-tasker will coordinate the plant’s manufacturing processes to ensure compliance with company objectives, quality systems, and customer expectations. The ideal candidate will be exceptionally detail oriented and able to lead a team, serving as liaison between plant workers and upper management. This person must be dedicated to achieving operational excellence and have a genuine interest in helping the company succeed.
Requirements:
- Ideate and implement strategic improvements for production, quality, and labour utilization throughout the facility
- Provide leadership to ensure the effective utilization of plant personnel and equipment
- Collaborate with functional departments in the implementation of improvements
- Investigate and implement innovative manufacturing processes to reduce costs and improve product quality
- Apply Lean Manufacturing principles in designing, specifying, and validating world-class manufacturing processes that achieve organizational goals
- Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in operations management, business, engineering, or a related field
- Min 10 years manufacturing/production experience
- Coordinate manufacturing operations for production
- Drive continuous improvement programs
- Ensure that production line schedules are in accordance with production plan
- Manage materials replenishment, quality standards, and performance metrics in support of organizational goals and objectives
- Manage cost structures for manufacturing by keeping operational expenses within the budget allowance, and investigate cost-reduction measures
- Create documentation protocols and ensure that all records of operations are properly maintained and reviewed
- Plan, organie, direct, and run optimal day-to-day operations
- Manage production, assets capacity, and flexibility while minimizing unnecessary costs and maintaining quality standards
- Ensure production output, product quality, and on-time shipping
- Allocate resources effectively and create and manage budgets
- Collect and analyze data to find areas of waste and overtime
- Develop systems and processes that track and optimize productivity
- Stay apprised of whether standards, metrics, and performance targets are being met in order to ensure effective return on assets
- Keep up to date with the latest production management best practices
- Maintain Lean Manufacturing processes
- Implement strategies in alignment with strategic initiatives
- Monitor operations, initiating and driving corrective actions when needed
- Oversee work schedules to ensure coverage
- Provide a clear sense of direction and focus to team members
- Build a trusting relationship with workers and address employees’ issues or grievances as well as recruit, manage, and develop plant staff
- Ensure that OEE targets are met, and waste/scrap is kept within limits
- Ensure proper asset maintenance and utilize assets to produce optimal results
