SUMMARY:
Foreman - Continuous Miners

POSITION INFO:

Reporting to the business unit manager the role requires an individual with a heavy duty manufacturing equipment for underground mining equipment. Must have a  solid background in word class manufacturing  processes and proven track record in the management  and development of people as well as dealing with the unions.

Major responsibilities:

 

  • Responsible for OTD of all machines, as per contract agreed with the customer.

 

 

  • Plan and control the overtime worked by the shop floor employees.

 

 

  • Co-ordinate and assign adequate man power to the priority jobs that have been pre-determined.

 

 

  • Ensure that all products delivered to the customer are of a high-quality standard.

 

 

  • Scheduling of PTO’s on all personnel for different tasks.

 

 

  • Ensure Safety standards are upheld, and records kept for the Safety meetings attendance.

 

 

  • Maintaining discipline with regards to work conducted and behavior in the area of responsibility.

 

 

  • Liaise with the production schedulers and project managers to ensure parts availability.

 

 

  • Organize and attend regular departmental board meetings.

 

 

  • Maintain good 6S standards, and ensure that the tools, tool cupboards, workshop area, are kept in a clean and controlled manner.

 

 

  • Implement, enforce, and maintain the Company’s EHS policies and procedures.

 

 

  • Implement, enforce, and maintain the Company’s Quality policies and procedures.

 

 

  • Prevent idle time by using resources efficiently and remove any bottlenecks that can impede the smooth running of the operations.

 
  • Control and manage employees’ synergy towards achieving Company’s goals and objectives.
  • Problem solving on all issues coming from the shop floor.
  • Motivate employees to get better results and create a harmonious working environment.
  • Provide training on the tasks that are not performed according to the Company’s time frame and safe work procedures.
  • Promote and encourage continuous improvement amongst employees and apply the lean methods and procedures to eliminate all the known wastes.
  • Control and maintain zero harm mentality.
  • Apply and enforce the Company’s disciplinary procedures lawfully, fairly, and consistently.






Minimum requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years experience on Continuous Miners.
  • Qualified artisan with minimum N4 qualification.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of OPEX system and principles.
  • 4 – 5 years experience in a supervisory position.
  • Must be Computer literate.
  • Must be able to understand, read, and interpret Engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Very good motivated person.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Foundation of Leadership course or similar leadership training.
  • Must have good product knowledge.
