Procurement Officer / Technical Buyer

SUMMARY:
Opportunity for a Technical Buyer / Procurement Officer in the steel industry, based on the East Rand. Previous experience in a foundry or steel industry highly advantageous. Due to the nature of the business, fluency in Afrikaans is essential.

POSITION INFO:

Responsibilities

• Ensure that the supply chain is functional and aligned to production requirements
• Responsible for supporting initiatives driving results measured by lower material costs, more responsive supplier performance, process and service improvements and productivity throughout the supply chain
• Work with sales and manufacturing to find new materials and/or alternate materials to meet production needs
• Maintain material database within MRP system for accuracy of pricing and specifications
• Thorough analysis of potential suppliers and annual review of existing suppliers reviewing costs, quality and delivery
• Create purchase orders into SAP and guide production and warehousing on demand
• Manage the procurement process through analysing procurement activity, identifying opportunities for national and regional vendor relationships, prepare business cases for the opportunities
• Maintain good supplier relationships and negotiate payment terms and service level agreements in line with the supply chain strategy
• Monitor procurement processes and conduct long-range planning necessary for contract scheduling
• Preparing plans for the purchase of equipment, services, and supplies
• Following and enforcing the company''s procurement policies and procedures
• Reviewing, comparing, analyzing, and approving products and services to be purchased
• Researching and evaluating prospective suppliers
• Preparing budgets, cost analyses, and reports as well as key metrics control on visualization systems
• Handle correspondence concerning over-shipments, delivery shortages, changes in quantity, delivery dates, and prices and report such changes

Key Skills

• Must be able to read and interpret technical drawings.
• Basic understanding of metallurgy and industrial chemicals, but would need to understand Grade 12 Chemistry, specifically Period Table, Valency, etc.
• Experience with supplier negotiations.
• Must understand SA corporate compliance frameworks including governmental systems and compliance Acts
• Skilled in presentations and be able to sell concepts to management
• Previous experience in research and quantum selection skills
• Excellent communication skills.
• Must have above average mathematical and computational skills

Systems Knowledge

• MS Excel (Intermediate / Advanced) - Essential
• Power Query - Essential 
• SAP (Materials Management / Vendor Management / Procurement) or any other ERP system
• MS PowerPoint (preferable but not essential)
• Power BI (or alternative)
• SCM DB - understand what this is

Minimum Education / Experience

• 5 years purchasing experience in an industrial environment
• 3 years foundry or steel associated exposure highly advantageous
• Tertiary qualification:
• Supply Chain Management (NQF 7+) or Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Commerce (Economics or related)
