Our client, specialists in packaging and print is looking for a Procurement Manager to be based in Durban, KZN.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Purpose of the role: 
The Procurement Manager will be responsible for the entire management, setup and operations of procurement. Manage and evaluate vendor partnerships by using these relationships to solve problems and achieve business goals. Manage ways to achieve procurement savings and improve Value-Add across the business as a whole.

 
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
 
Strategic Purchasing

  • Manage and be accountable for procurement with the financial effect of all elements within their scope (Substrates, Ink, consumables, labour and outwork).
  • Ensuring best practice in procurement and work towards a true JIT stock system.
  • Ensure that key products are identified and maintain content that is benchmarked against the broader markets through tender request for pricing processes.
  • Responsible to ensure budgeted material percentage is achieved along with procurement savings on a monthly basis.
  • Negotiate competitive pricing, terms and rebates with suppliers and manage key supplier performance to ensure that delivery dates meet required expectations.
  • Work closely with production and sales to ensure accurate 3-6-month paper, ink and consumables forecasting is prepared weekly to facilitate efficient procurement and stock management.
  • Follow up on Account Supplier queries for payment ensuring corrective action procedures are in place and agreed to by the responsible parties.
  • Develops and implements procurement strategies that are innovative, cost-effective, and incorporates the growing complexities and challenges within the industry.
  • Regularly interact with the buying team to monitor procurement processes and ensure that the best possible material is sourced at the best price.
  • Work closely with stores and production to ensure that orders are delivered on time and that any queries are resolved timeously without delay.
  • Continuously look at alternative materials to save costs without compromising quality and availability.
  • Conduct market research and develop detailed business plans on procurement opportunities.

 
Supplier Relationships

  • Working closely with suppliers to improve operations and reduce costs.
  • Enhances supplier relationships by developing and improving supplier processes.
  • Develops and drives supplier scorecards and ongoing supplier performance improvement working with the supply base.
  • Provides technical guidance to key stakeholders working within the supply chain.

 
BBBEEE

  • Drive the Enterprise and Supplier Development component of the BBBEE scorecard.
  • Scheduling supplier assessments and ensuring that suppliers have been fairly assessed in terms of their BEE profile.
  • Maintain/enhance the Preferential Procurement score achieved year on year.
  • Follow up with internal teams to ensure all certificates are captured and loaded on BEE123.
  • Cross pollination of certificates between Business Units through the identification of potential consolidation/switching of suppliers for improved scores.

 
Reporting

  • Work in Managing conjunction with the Stores Manager using the necessary reporting tools to monitor and manage:
  • Stock levels
  • Stock ageing
  • Stock turn
  • Slow-moving and obsolete stock
  • Financial provisions against inventory
  • Ensuring that there are no disruptive stock outs
  • Keep the Commercial Manager informed of the current internal and external situations, new trends, challenges and opportunities to maintain a competitive edge for the Group.
  • Responsible for the provision of statistical information to Commercial Manager to enable strategic business decisions.

Personnel Management/ HR

  • Responsible for performance management of staff and conducting performance appraisals to ensure that it is in line with HR performance management objectives.
  • Responsible for identifying and managing training objectives within the department in order to fulfil business unit skills requirements and succession planning.
  • Defining procurement strategy and structure.
  • To develop an effective committed team environment to ensure service delivery.
  • Management and authorisation of staff sick and annual leave.

COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
Qualification and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics and Finance or in a related field.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a similar role with a medium to large organisation with experience in procurement management, financial analysis and negotiation skills.
  • High level skills with Business Central (or equivalent) system.
  • Candidates who have completed their studies must have strong people management skills and performance management by process and statistical reporting.
  • High level business acumen, familiar with financial IT and software/computer platforms.
  • Project Management skills, financial models, projections and forecasts.
  • Formulating and improving business practices.
