Our client an established company in the food and confectionery manufacturing and retail sector is looking for an experienced HR/Training/Recruitment/BEE/Wage Negotiations/Work Skills Planning/POPIA & Payroll

POSITION INFO:

Role and Candidate Profile

Position:                              People & Culture Manager

Location:                             Riverhorse Valley, Durban

Reporting to:                      Group People & Culture Manager

Direct reports:                    4 direct reports

 

Your strengths and qualifications

  • A Bachelor‘s Degree in Human Resources
  • Appropriate recognised post-graduate qualification
    • Expert understanding of the BCEA (Basic Conditions of Employment Act), LRA (Labour Relations Act) and COIDA (Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act)
    • Excellent understanding of salary structuring
    • Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency
    • Microsoft Office skills (Outlook, Word)
    • Minimum of seven years’ experience as an HR generalist in a management position
    • Proficient in speaking, reading and writing in English with report writing skills and compilation ability

This is a group function which is responsible for all human resources  functions for two businesses which employ approximately 700 employees based mainly in Durban and Johannesburg. Prior experience in the Retail and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors will be a definite advantage.

Areas of responsibility will include but are not limited to:

Business Partnering

  • Participate in developing the People & Culture strategy to support the achievement of the overall business strategy
  • Understand the role and requirements of each business channel in order to support succession planning, skillsets required and timeframes to achieve this
  • Develop staff retention strategy to minimize staff turnover and ensure that motivated and high quality personnel are retained
  • Overall management of People and Culture Department, including personnel and delivery of departmental tasks

Recruitment and salary structuring

  • Appropriate staffing of the organization, including development of recruitment plans, undertaking recruitment and vetting successful candidates
  • Salary structuring, benefits and rewards management
  • Onboarding, induction and monitoring of candidates’ progress

Training

  • Foster a culture of life-long learning
  • Identify training needs for current and future development, identify and manage training programmes

BEE

  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws regulating Employment Equity, including review and implementation of BEE plan to ensure that the organization achieves the set Employment Equity targets and plans
  • Manage BEE audits

WSP/SDL

  • Prepare Workplace Skills Plan and manage achievement of goals
  • Manage learnerships and maximize SETA subsidization of training programmes

POPIA (Protection of Personal Information Act)

  • As the Information Officer, you will be responsible for coordinating POPIA compliance for each business channel 

Payroll Administration

  • Collect, check and collate all payroll input and send to Payroll Deparment for processing
  • Assist with investigation of payroll queries

Company Policies

  • Standardisation and implementation of company policies across the group of companies where reasonable to do so

Employee Wellness

  • Manage Employee Wellness programme

COIDA

  • Complete all relevant documentation for workplace related injuries and manage medical treatment for employees

Wage negotiations

  • Build and maintain a good relationship with unions, shop stewards and company leadership
  • Manage annual wage negotiations for the group

Staff Discipline

  • Maintaining staff discipline, prepare and manage CCMA (Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration) cases

From time to time there will be projects to work on, and also a constant drive to improve existing controls and work methodologies.
