POSITION INFO:

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for the position of Process & Recoveries Engineer in the Optimisation Department. The position reports to the Optimisation Manger: Recoveries

The successful incumbent will be responsible for Driving the embedding of the “CLIENTS Way of Optimisation” by implementing world class practices to optimize sugar recovery, contribute to the Optimization Strategy with a view towards long term growth, optimal efficiency and sustainability, audit and analyse production systems & processes with the aim of uncovering and addressing inefficiencies as well as promote a culture of consistently assessing risks and drive continuous improvement throughout operations

Key performance areas


ï‚· Contribute to the in-Country Production Optimization Strategy with the objective of effectively optimizing performance and cost of CLIENT’s production
ï‚· Drive production, recovery and extraction initiatives that will deliver products at volume, cost and quality levels that drive profitability.
ï‚· Drive synergies with the group, effectively partnering with group counterparts to identify, share and embed opportunities for production optimisation.
ï‚· Provide expertise on complex, multi-faceted production issues, support and advise on solutions.
ï‚· Model and simulate factory unit operations to understand bottlenecks and key efficiency drivers, and use the model to propose solutions, drawing on factory real time data
ï‚· Set direction, implement and monitor continuous improvement by driving work practices, and ensuring that tools and techniques are being applied to deliver high quality products made in a safe and sustainable manner at the highest extraction rate.
ï‚· Contribute to production & Supply Side plans and monitoring of compliance to plans.
ï‚· Optimise cost of production
ï‚· Conduct regular internal and external benchmarking exercises to identify and develop Production best practices and improvement opportunities
ï‚· Manage and coordinate sharing of identified best practices, frameworks and minimum standards within function across entities and through the Head Office platform, and provide additional opportunities for problem identification and knowledge sharing.
ï‚· Address all technical process audit findings
ï‚· Monitors factory effluent quality and quantity to ensure that any effluent disposal is within specification
ï‚· Support production teams in developing the necessary skills and experience to meet current and future needs
ï‚· Mentor all process trainees
ï‚· Build a strong technical team and talent pipeline for Production Optimisation through ongoing coaching, mentoring, guidance and technical training
ï‚· Ensure enablers are in place to promote success (e.g. systems and processes)
ï‚· Management of technical standards, MOPS, TOPS, process specifications, best practices and policies and the governance thereof.
ï‚· Identify and monitor KPIs to track performance and flag any issues
ï‚· Promote and adhere to Illovo’s procedures, policies and guidelines, including, without limitation, those relating to SHERQ, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC)

Minimum specifications/requirement areas


ï‚· Btech (Chem Eng) Degree / Chemical Engineering Degree / Diploma
ï‚· 5 years’ experience in Sugar production and sound knowledge of the factories
ï‚· Track record of technical leadership and process design engineering experience
ï‚· Good data analysis and interpretation skills
ï‚· Deep Root Cause Analysis skills and experience
