POSITION INFO:
A well-established private Medical Practice in Houghton, Johannesburg, is seeking an experienced, highly organised and hands-on Practice & Dispensary Manager to take ownership of the day-to-day operational management of the practice.
The successful candidate will work across the dispensary, front office and wider practice, ensuring that staff, stock, patient administration, accounts and operational processes are effectively managed.
This role is suited to a mature, highly trustworthy and people-focused professional who is comfortable taking responsibility, managing staff and working in a busy patient-facing healthcare environment.
Position: Practice & Dispensary Manager
Location: Houghton, Johannesburg
Start Date: 1 November 2026, or sooner if available
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:30–17:30; every alternate Saturday, 09:00–13:00
Salary: R25,000–R35,000 cost to company per month, negotiable depending on experience and suitability
Requirements
Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience in practice management, dispensary management, pharmacy management or a similar healthcare operational role
Minimum 2 years’ staff management experience
Strong practical experience managing the day-to-day operations of a medical practice, dispensary, pharmacy or similar healthcare environment
Experience managing and coordinating staff
Strong knowledge of medication and consumable stock management
Experience with ordering, receiving, stock takes and stock reconciliation
Knowledge of expiry-date and batch management
Experience with supplier and creditor account management
Experience with patient/debtor accounts and related administration
Strong computer literacy and experience with practice-management or healthcare systems
Strong organisational, administrative and problem-solving skills
Able to move comfortably between the front desk, dispensary and broader practice operations
Confident dealing with patients, doctors, staff and suppliers
Strong people and communication skills
Genuine interest in health, wellness and patient care
Professional, mature and highly detail-oriented
Exceptionally trustworthy and accountable
Able to take ownership, identify problems and ensure tasks are followed through to completion
SAPC registration is not required
Key Responsibilities
Take overall responsibility for the smooth day-to-day operation of the practice
Oversee and support the front-office team and ensure patient-facing processes run efficiently
Manage and coordinate staff responsibilities, workflows and day-to-day performance
Ensure tasks are appropriately allocated and completed
Take ownership of dispensary operations
Manage medication and consumable stock
Handle and oversee ordering, receiving, stock takes and stock reconciliation
Monitor stock levels, expiry dates and batch information
Help ensure accurate stock controls and minimise shortages, wastage and discrepancies
Support the practice’s dispensing processes in conjunction with the doctors and clinical team
Manage supplier and creditor accounts
Oversee patient/debtor accounts and related administrative processes
Ensure invoicing, account administration and outstanding items are followed through
Coordinate communication and workflows between the front office, dispensary, clinical team and doctors
Support the doctors with the operational requirements of the practice
Identify operational issues and implement practical solutions
Ensure agreed practice processes and systems are consistently followed
Maintain high standards of organisation, professionalism and patient service
Help create an efficient, welcoming and well-run practice environment
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be someone who is comfortable being visible and hands-on across the practice rather than managing from an office.
They should be able to spend time supporting the front desk, move into the dispensary when required, manage staff and operational issues, and maintain an overall view of what needs to happen across the practice.
