Our client is currently in search of an Operations Manager to manage their recycling partnerships and implement their Extended Social Responsibility scheme.

The role will report into the Business Manager

Are you looking to grow your career in the building and managing (including people management) of a business unit?

One would describe you as being business minded, having strong strategic thinking and planning skills that will ensures sound operational delivery. Your knowledge of the waste and recycling sector (systems and process) would be considered as an advantage, however comparable sectors (energy, water, manufacturing, etc.) will also be considered.

The role will require you to engage and form relationships with waste businesses and funders therefore one must be able to illustrate experience in working with businesses owners (understanding, troubleshooting and supporting) and reporting to funders/clients (private, public and NGOs).

Key Deliverables:

  • Programme management (Leading a team and performance management),
  • Finance management (budgeting)
  • Stakeholder engagement (existing entrepreneurs and seeking new entrepreneurs)
  • Reporting (data capture, writing and presenting),

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE NEEDED:

  • Process Engineering / Industrial Engineering / Chemical Engineering OR Related Degree (Project Management | Business Administration | Relationship Management)
  • 5-7 Years related experience gained within the recycling / waste management / operations management / engineering consulting arena (with private sector exposure essential!)
  • 3-4 Years operation and relationship management experience gained with proven stakeholder engagement experience gained (client, funder, NGO, government)
  • Minimum 2-3 years project management | project lead experience gained in managing multiple projects
  • Proven ability in managing service providers and performance delivery
  • Solid financial reporting skills and advanced use of MS Office  (MS Excel, Office 365, MS Project)
  • Proven budgetary management experience (including the development of budgets)
  • Fluency in English and Afrikaans OR an African language (s)
  • Willingness to travel

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Project Management:

  • Plan and Co-ordinate all activities to ensure timeous launch of the business unit''s entrepreneurs against committed timelines
  • Work with the business manager to develop strategies to grow and develop the business unit
  • Manage process of assigning entrepreneurs to an operating area (depending on what is available and where they are based)
  • Manage issues with collection areas - working with the Business Manager for the assigning of new areas
  • Manage performance of all service providers to ensure successful launches and implementation
  • Manage entrepreneur drop-out and replacement process
  • Establish and recruit a resource team to meet all the operational requirements of the business unit over the next 5 years
  • Work closely with the Business Manager and Financial Manager to ensure sound financial management and operating within agreed budgets
  • Ensure compliance to the funder requirements and provide feedback to stakeholders
  • Manage the development of the software Application that will enable the business unit to scale up to more operational units

Legal/HR:

  • Manage Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing with every entrepreneur that joins the business unit
  • Manage any performance management related matter with entrepreneurs
  • Manage any breach or termination case with lawyers
  • Staff management and mentoring

PROGRAMME MANAGEMENT: OPERATIONS

Manage dedicated operational staff to ensure that the business unit is performing all its functions, this entails:

IT and training:

  • Train the entrepreneurs on the relevant IT platforms
  • Manage the trouble-shooting process with IT-related or system matters
  • Oversee materials training if required
  • Co-ordinate the business unit''s operations training

Logistics management:

  • Purchasing and delivery of vehicles to new entrepreneurs
  • Co-ordinating and monitor service process for every vehicle and trailer
  • Assisting with permissions for land access where necessary/applicable
  • Monitoring collection areas and routes of entrepreneurs to ensure percentage of community collections is being met and area boundaries are being obeyed
  • Assisting entrepreneurs with setting up relationships for commercial collections
  • Establishing and maintain relationships with collector and recycler network partners
  • Assisting entrepreneurs to secure a safe storage locat
