Primary Responsibilities

To ensure the SGS OIMS system is implemented and maintained on all HSE related areas, including legal compliance, client requirements and OI management system requirements as per local and Global requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all Safety, Health and Environmental requirements of the SGS OI management system.
  • Ensure compliance with SGS OI Management System requirements, relevant standards / methods including all applicable legislation (e.g. OHS Act, ISO 45001, ISO 14001 etc.) and Regulatory and Legal compliance to NNR, DOH, DOL, PMR, DOE and SAAQIS requirements
  • Manage clear HSE related communication between role players (OI, Section Managers, Employees and Management)
  • Promote HSE awareness (Campaigns, awareness, communications etc.)
  • Conduct OI training aligned with IMS / OIMS and local regulatory requirements
  • Ensure operational implementation of Global OIMS / IMS and local regulatory requirements
  • Implement the OI Top page as received annually for the location, and ensure all goals and targets are met
  • Report and manage OI related incidents, near misses, hazards and best practices in accordance with group expectations
  • Conduct Incident Investigations
  • Ensure all Safety data is collected, recorded and presented monthly for OI meetings
  • Report all OI data and supporting documents on a monthly basis to Business OI (KPI Reports)
  • Facilitate Risk Assessments through the Crystal module
  • Facilitate OI projects, and form part of the roll-out and implementation phase of each specific OI Project
  • Implement Global OI Initiatives (Safe Start, Stellar, Safety Month, Quarterly Campaigns, Safe Talks, SGS Rules for Life, Stop Work Authority, BBS, etc.)
  • Ensure corrective action implementation from Incidents / Best Practices
  • Form part of L4 compliance audits and inspections / site visits and provide guidance and assistance on related challenged and areas of improvement
  • Evaluate the business process, procedures in relation to changes and amendments as and when required
  • Facilitate OI internal and external audits, client visits, governmental / regulatory visits etc.
  • Ensure Occupational Hygiene Surveys take place at least every 24 months, action plans are in place, and corrective action is taken
  • Keep up to date with Global SGS systems in area of responsibility
  • Actively participate and use all SGS Global OI Systems (Stellar, Crystal and Chemwatch), and ensure that the OI systems are managed according to Global standards and requirements. 
  • Facilitate the Medical Surveillance program (Annual medicals, pre-employment annual and exit medicals) and keep the medical register up to date
  • Facilitate the Biological Monitoring program (Lead Monitoring) and ensure all employees are scheduled for regular Biological testing.  Keep the Biological Register up to date
  • Ensure all OI related Inspections and Maintenance gets done and recorded where needed for work areas, building / premises, vehicles etc.
  • Adhere to the SGS Contractor Control requirements, and ensure all Contractors have valid Safety Files at all times.
  • Facilitate the Check Status and Stop Work authority program, through communication and training to all employees, enforcing the program, reporting of any occurrences etc.
  • Ensure Safe / Integrity Talks, OI training and Toolbox talks are done and recorded
  • Ensure all OI displays and communication are kept current and updated (OI Information, Emergency plans, Safety signs etc.)
  • Conduct PPE Hazard Assessments for all tasks, issue of PPE to employees, conduct PPE checks and replace all defective PPE.
  • Facilitate the Emergency Response program, by developing maps, action plans, coordinating emergency drills, feedback drill reports etc.
  • Ensure environmental management is up to standard with relevant Standards, e.g. ISO 14001

Perform any OI reasonable tasks as assigned by direct line manager.

Specific Authorities

  • Implement OIMS / IMS and country specific regulatory requirements to assure compliance
  • Conduct OI inspections and self-assessments to verify implementation of OIMS / IMS and compliance with country regulatory requirements regarding Health, Safety and the Environment.
  • Timely reporting of OI relevant items including incidents, near misses, hazards and KPIs as per SGS procedures
  • Implement SGS wide OI activities at the site including Stellar, Safety Month, Quarterly Campaigns, Best Practice Sharing, SGS Rules for Life, Stop Work Authority, BBS, etc. to assure compliance with OIMS and Country regulatory requirements.
  • Cease the use of any equipment that may be deemed to constitute a safety hazard or entry to hazardous environments without the necessary knowledge and protection and take action to address the hazard.
