SUMMARY:
engage corporate decision-makers, directing compliance funding into education solutions, etc.
POSITION INFO:
Introduction:
Odin (OMANG) is a South African EdTech company. We work with corporates to direct their B-BBEE compliance funding — specifically Enterprise Development and Skills Development spend — into education programmes that produce measurable outcomes. Our commercial channel has been built by one person. This role exists to develop a second.
Position Summary:
This is not a sales role with a target and a commission structure. It is a development position. The BD Lead will teach you how this commercial channel works — the legislation, the client landscape, the sales process, and the conversations. Over one to three years, the expectation is that you will be capable of running this independently.
If you need to be earning on performance from month one, this is the wrong role. If you want a mentor and a clear path to owning a specialist commercial function, read on.
Basic Requirements:
- Port Elizabeth / Gqeberha-based — non-negotiable
- 1 to 3 years of work experience in any role — sector is irrelevant
- Clear and confident communicator, on a call and in writing
- Organised — you follow through without needing to be chased
Key Responsibilities:
- Sit in on and conduct discovery calls with corporate leads, with coaching and debrief after each one
- Learn how to qualify a prospect — identifying which companies have live spend intent and which do not
- Build working knowledge of the B-BBEE legislative and funding environment
- Maintain an accurate pipeline of contacts and conversations
- Support in-person client engagement in Port Elizabeth and occasionally elsewhere
What We’re Looking for?
Experience is not the selection criteria. Character is. We are looking for a specific kind of person — someone who has the right attitude and mindset to be built into a specialist over time. The five things that matter most:
- ATTITUDE: You show up willing. You do not wait to be told what to care about. When something is not going well, your first instinct is to understand why — not to deflect. You hold yourself to a standard that does not require external pressure to maintain.
- LEARNING: You genuinely want to know how things work. You ask questions, retain what you are taught, and apply it. When you are corrected, you do not repeat the same mistake. You understand that being new to something is not a weakness — it is the starting point.
- POSITIVITY: You are not easily discouraged. Rejection, slow progress, and difficult conversations are part of this work — you can absorb them without losing momentum. You bring energy to the room, not weight.
- CURIOSITY: You want to understand why businesses make the decisions they make. You find people interesting. You ask follow-up questions because you actually want the answer, not because you have been told to. This is not a trait you can learn on the job — you either have it or you do not.
- MINDSET: You are playing a long game. You are not looking for the fastest path to a commission cheque. You understand that building a real skill set takes time, and you are prepared to invest that time before expecting a return on it.
What We Offer:
- Structured mentorship from the person who built this commercial channel from scratch
- Direct exposure to senior corporate deal-making from day one
- A salary that reflects a development role, reviewed as your capability grows
- A clear path to owning this commercial channel as the business scales
To Apply:
Send your CV and one paragraph explaining why this role and why now. We are not looking for a cover letter. We want to understand why a development role with no commission structure appeals to you at this stage of your career. The note matters as much as the CV.
Port Elizabeth / Gqeberha-based candidates only.
Preference will be given to employees from the designated groups in line with the provisions of the Employment Equity Act, No. 55 of 1998
Jendamark Automation reserves the right not to make an appointment.
