POSITION INFO:

Small electronics and growing business that is very successful, fast moving and dynamic is requiring an Operations Manager who will be reporting directly to the General Manager and dotted line to the Directors. Although the product range is consumer electronics which is driven by E Commerce, nevertheless, the business is diversifying extensively into both allied and different products.  The products are sourced locally as well as internationally and are therefore imported.  This on-line shopping business delivers to their customers, “door to door” all around South Africa.  The successful candidate will be responsible for all the operations of the business.  The philosophy of the Company’s is “to make things happen” and provide the best service available to customers in a professional manner.

The key performance areas will cover:  operations management, housekeeping & health & safety, people management and team effectiveness.  In detail this will include:

• Meticulous staff management of the Despatch Department, Stock Room and Drivers
• Operations Management – attending weekly Management meetings, submitting reports to the GM & Directors, optimising flow of ongoing traffic & parking in their premises which often becomes congested, overseeing maintenance, upgrades & general building requirements (as the business is continuously growing)
• Housekeeping and health & safety – maintaining these standards including investigating quality as well as health & safety problems, adhere to health and safety regulations as well as develop these standards
• People management – ensure quality of work, coach and direct subordinates, manage individual staff performance, organise & use staff in the most efficient way, establish work schedules, evaluate performance and ensure required training
• Team effectiveness – achieve team goals by having constructive meetings, providing leadership & improvements, building relationships with staff, direct tasks
• Manage despatch department – ensure all parcels are sent out timeously with adequate packaging, create work flow efficiencies which may include designing applicable systems, ensure all parcels are packed in accordance with the order which may contain between 1 to 30 items per parcel
• Oversee stock room which are mainly consumer electronic items and ensure pilferage is kept to an absolute minimum, although the Company has a zero policy on pilferage
• Management of drivers – ensure optimum routes (route planning) used to reach customer, improve efficiencies, expedite orders, do spot checks

Requirements:

• Operations Diploma and/or courses.  Ideally with a knowledge of Consumer Electronics and/or has been employed in this industry in a fast moving environment.
• Strong managerial & leadership skills, able to work under pressure, decisive, organisational & planning ability and problem solver.
• Candidate should have not less than 10 years experience in Operations, which should include at least 5 years managing staff and understanding of best practices & principles in an operational environment.
