SUMMARY:
Client in the Metal and Steel Refinery Industry requires the services of a OEHS Specialist in the Eastern Cape as soon as possible.

POSITION INFO:

Min Required Qualifications.

  • National Curriculum Statements (NCS) Grades R - 12 with Mathematics, Physical Science and/or Life Science
  • Tertiary Qualification in Chemistry (preferably not Chemical Engineering)
  • Related Tertiary Qualification in QEHS (BTech Quality and/or B. Tech in Safety Management, Environmental or related)
  • SAMTRAC (Safety Management Training Course) / NEBOSH (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health)
  • Tertiary Qualification in Leadership/Management (MDP – Management Development Programme, Business Management or related)
  • Recognised Internal auditor (according to ISO 19011)
  • Lead auditor & Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt/Black belt) advantageous
  • Required Experience / Ability / Competence:

Management of a department with people reporting into the HOD

Quality Management System (ISO)

HSE responsibility in an Environment with hazardous chemicals & processes

  • Working knowledge/experience in legal compliance (Environmental, Health & Safety, POPIA - Protection of Personal Information Act, LRA - Labour Relations Act, Dangerous Goods etc.)
  • Demonstrate proven knowledge; experience and ability to interpret and/or implement relevant prescripts for organisational compliance

 

Major Responsibilities & Accountabilities

 

v  Health and Safety:

  • Management, maintenance and improvement of the QEHS Integrated Management System against compliance and legal requirements for ISO 45001 EHS Development Path, requirements and related systems.
  • Implement and maintain corporate compliance, relevant local legal compliance (environmental, health & safety regulations, POPIA, etc.)
  • Implement and maintain EHS compliance management System
  • Coordinate Chloro-platinum monitoring (in view of Platinosis prevention)
  • Collate, arrange, record and report on training as per OHS Act requirements – e.g. fire-fighting training, first aid training, HSE committee meetings, etc.
  • Co-ordinate and update the quality information board, Gemba boards, visual information structures, cockpit charts, KPI’s and data for management review
  • Coordinate medical surveillance program & safety representatives
  • Reporting incidents and IOD’s with RMA (Rand Mutual Assurance), in Intelex (EHS Software) and to authorities
  • Coordinate document control, report, follow up and closing of Action Requests.
  • Control and coordinate vendor safety files
  • Conduct regular QEHS inspections and report documented findings to management with proposed recommendations.
  • Participate in all risk assessments, updated and actions followed up.

 

v  Quality and Environment

  • Effective management, maintenance and improvement of the HZA QEHS IMS against compliance and legal requirements for ISO 9001, ISO 14001.
  • Product Safety & Conformity Representative (PSCR, Automotive Requirement)
  • Implement and maintain Master Control utilising Signavio (a Business Process Management software)
  • Manage and control contract cleaners
  • Coordinate and control Life Cycle & Sustainability initiatives, Waste Management
  • Administration of quality improvement programs
  • Plan, perform, report, and follow up on all audits
  • Reporting incidents and IOD’s to RMA (Rand Mutual Assurance) and in Intelex (HPM EHS Software)
  • Overall responsibility to prepare safety risk assessments, safe working procedures and method statement. On an ongoing basis identify and evaluate the risks to which employees may be exposed to and communicate these to management and staff.
  • Drive and manage an effective Action Request System.
  • Conduct supplier audits and supplier development as per annual audit schedule.
  • Draft and implement QEHS policies and procedures.

Compile and analyse QEHS relevant results and data
