Main Purpose of Job:

Provide nursing guidance, leadership and technical assistance to nurses, doctors and other clinical staff for the implementation, maintenance and optimisation of an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system to deliver quality healthcare within the division. This person, in conjunction with Health Informatics team, is responsible for assuring the successful utilisation of information technology, primarily the EHR-system, to optimise patient care delivery in collaboration with nurses, doctors and other clinical staff.

 

Required Education

Essential Education:

  • Registered/Professional Nursing qualification. Registration with the relevant Nursing Council essential.

 

Desired Education:

  • Nursing specialist qualification especially in ICU or Theatre.
  • Degree/qualification in health informatics.
  • Certification in Health Informatics will be an advantage.

 

Required Experience

Essential Minimum Experience:

  • More than 5 years’ experience in field of a nursing specialist discipline. At least 3 years’ experience in Healthcare management.
  • User experience with clinical, hospital and/or financial applications/ systems within a hospital or experience working with an Electronic Health Record/Electronic Medical Records.

 

Desired Experience:

  • At least 3 years Informatics experience with clinical information system implementation, support and optimisation.
  • Experience in at least one EHR instillation in a multi-hospital group or multiple sites.
  • Management and work experience in the South African private healthcare sector.

 

Key Responsibility Areas:

  • Assist with the identification and procurement of an Electronic Health Records (EHR) system, as well as other IT related clinical applications, that meet the nursing end-user needs as well as the company’s clinical and patient care needs.
  • Facilitate the configuration, planning and implementation of the EHR system and processes, within the nursing domain, throughout the division.
  • Ensure effective utilisation and optimisation of an EHR-system to deliver quality nursing care.
  • Ensure compliance to legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships to ensure effective implementation and optimal utilisation of EHR-system.

 

Required Job Skills And Knowledge:

  • In-depth knowledge of nursing and health care practices, clinical workflow, terminology and standards
  • Nursing related informatics
  • Health care information management principles
  • Knowledge of health information systems and other IT applications in support of clinical and business decisions
  • Proficiency in the protocols, regulatory requirements and emerging trends around the management of electronic health records
  • Systems thinking with understanding of the interactions and inter-dependencies of business information and events on the operational level
  • IT Infrastructure components and integration standards
  • Systems Analysis, Design and Implementation for Health Care Informatics
  • Knowledge of redesigning clinical processes to improve efficiency and patient care
  • Project management skills, tools and methodologies
  • Data governance, standards and regulations affecting the practice of nursing
  • Clinical governance and risk management
  • Quality management systems
