New Product Developer Food Processing Plant - Epping Industrial - R30 000 - R33 000 per month CTC

Food Processing Plant seeks a New Product Developer to interpret customer needs and lifestyle trends for the development of a product development plan that delivers consistent high quality, value for money and exceeds customer expectations; whilst contributing to the respective category’s profitability and the company’s strategic goals and objectives. The successful candidate will be reporting to the New Product Development Manager.

The following skills and experience or the equivalent of such, will be required:

• Degree or diploma in Food Technology or relevant qualification preferably Culinary
• A superior palate and sensory evaluation skills.
• 5 years'' experience in food product development or related foods experience.

Previous work experience with a Woolworths Supplier is advantageous

Trend Analysis                                          

• Interpret and utilise customer and food trends to develop proposals aligned to rends and business objectives
• Conduct market research for benchmarking, including range reviews locally and internationally

Product Development

• Develop products aligned to customer requirements and briefs, business objectives and legislative requirements
• Formulate specifications for new products (physical attributes and requirements) by ensuring GBJ’s are adhered to at all times
• Responsible for validating recipes/recipe processes through kitchen and factory trials
• Manage and implement the product development process within the category to ensure product ranges are delivered in line with product direction and brand values
• Continuously upgrade existing product ranges according to customer and business requirements
• Conduct the planning, organizing and monitoring of production trials with the relevant production teams up until Trial 2

Documentation and Administration

• Create and maintain a project tracking sheet, to ensure that the status and updates regarding current projects are reported on regularly
• Update and maintain project documentation
• Document and file the confirmed recipes for easy access
• Ensure manufacturing and quality contracts, feedback forms and recipes are updated timeously, according to the CPA milestones
• Responsible for submitting the recipes and costing templates to the Finance Department

Project Management

• Responsible for ensuring that the product development programme/plans are implemented and supports the customer needs
• Align recipe schedules with identified project schedules
• Liaise with Procurement Department to ensure that raw materials available for production trials within the allocated timeframes
• Load and update new projects using the FPI system

Quality Control

• Produce high quality, innovative product samples and ensure these are delivered to the customer
• Review, set and continuously improve quality standards of existing product ranges through local and international benchmarking

Risk and Compliance                               

• Maintain all relevant policy requirements
• Comply with the necessary Occupational Health and Safety requirements
• Ensure compliance to all food safety regulations, allergen control, housekeeping and pest control
• Participate in personal hygiene checks
• Ensure compliance to all food safety legislation and regulations, organizational food safety management system requirements.
