Mine Manager (Contract)

POSITION INFO:

We have a vacancy available for a Mine Manager in the Benoni area on a 3 month basis to ensure that all mining is being carried out in a safe manner and is 100% aligned with the mining plan.

Requirements:

• Underground Blasting Certificate
• Mine Overseers Certificate
• Mine Managers Ticket (Non-Negotiable) 
• 15 years underground Gold Mining experience and at least 3 years experience as a Mine Manager
• Must be able start immediately
• Microsoft Office (Essential)
• English / Afrikaans
• Fanakalo (Essential) 

Responsibilities (not limited to):

• To ensure that all mining is being carried out in a safe manner and is 100% aligned with the mining plan.
• To manage all regulatory requirements of a 3.1 appointment
• To ensure the following KPI’s are met
  • Mining Grade
  • Mining Tonnes
  • Safety for all mine departments including Mining, Processing and Support Services
  • Metallurgical Plant Tonnes
  • Metallurgical Plant Recovery
• The Mine operates underground and surface mining areas via high grade vamping, scraper winch and conventional stope drill and blast mining, as well as future open cast operations

Job Description:

• To manage production requirements for the gold mine
• To fulfill all regulatory requirements that a mine manager generally fulfills
• To hold the 3.1 ticket for the mine
• To identify solutions to technical problems both of a mining nature and an engineering nature so that production can be optimized for lowest cost per tonne, lowest cost per gram of gold and highest gold content mined
• To ensure high levels of safety and disciplined work environment

Mining technique

• High grade underground vampings/ sweeping
• Selective mining of high grade ore
• Use of mono rope winches, vacuum machines, low capacity material handling equipment such as
• Low tonnage vertical shaft skips
• Low tonnage Decline shaft skips
• Low tonnage mono rope bag mining

Underground support comments

• Must action Underground mine support and make areas safe
• Underground areas are faulted and need smart support using stone walls; timber support or alternate
• Areas are tight access and need to be intelligently optimized to allow for optimal materials handling
• The successful applicant must be prepared to work in difficult underground conditions that are setup for low tonnage, high grade vamping and sweeping
• The mine is not well established underground but holds enormous potential; the incumbent must be part of the team and work with maximum effort to access the value underground in a safe and productive manner to allow the project to thrive.

General

• The incumbent must be good with numbers and mine block planning
• Must be well experienced and drafting mine production plans and daily, monthly targets vs actual
• Must be proficient in spreadsheets, report writing and creating accurate budgets for projects.
• Must be experienced in equipping shafts for low tonnage mining operations. 5. Good skills in moving ore underground whether with scraper winches, mono rope bag mining systems, vacuum machines, cocopans and rail based systems, or otherwise.

Performance Standards:

The Mine Manager will be measured against the following:

1. Profitability

• Labour cost per ton
• Production – tonnes mined per section per period
• Recovery grades – grams per ton mined

2. Safety

• Achieving safety targets

3. Construction Project Plan

• Achieving construction project milestones (on time, within budget and to quality requirements specifications)
