Salary: R32,000 per month (negotiable)

Position Overview

A well-established manufacturing operation is seeking an experienced Millwright Supervisor to oversee the safe, reliable and efficient operation of production machinery and equipment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for preventative maintenance, breakdown response, fault-finding, repairs and installation of mechanical and electrical equipment, while also supervising production and workshop personnel.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance & Technical

• Install, maintain and repair mechanical and electrical production equipment.
• Maintain and troubleshoot heavy-duty mechanical equipment, including crushers, mixers and extruders.
• Conduct mechanical alignment, lubrication and related maintenance activities.
• Troubleshoot electrical systems, including motors, VFDs/VSDs, sensors and electrical panels.
• Perform basic PLC fault-finding.
• Assist with electronic fault-finding where required.
• Respond to equipment breakdowns and minimise production downtime.
• Implement and maintain preventative maintenance programmes.
• Conduct root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions.

Health & Safety

• Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety requirements.
• Apply and enforce Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
• Conduct equipment and workplace inspections.
• Ensure safe working practices and maintain safe working conditions.

Administration & Reporting

• Complete and maintain job cards, maintenance records and equipment histories.
• Maintain accurate maintenance logs and documentation.
• Monitor outstanding maintenance requirements and follow up on corrective actions.

Supervision & People Management

• Supervise and coordinate approximately 20 operators, junior artisans and workshop assistants.
• Allocate work and monitor performance to ensure maintenance and production requirements are met.
• Provide guidance and support to junior technical personnel.
• Promote teamwork, discipline and adherence to safe working practices.

Minimum Requirements

• Matric / Grade 12.
• Relevant trade qualification will be advantageous, such as Millwright, Fitter or Electrician.
• Minimum 5 years'''''''''''''''' relevant technical/maintenance experience.
• Minimum 2 years'''''''''''''''' supervisory experience.
• Proven experience working with heavy-duty industrial/manufacturing equipment.
• Experience with electrical systems, motors, VFDs/VSDs and basic PLC fault-finding.
• Experience with electronics will be advantageous.
• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Good problem-solving and fault-finding ability.
• High attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and respond to production breakdowns.

Suitable Candidates

This position would suit an experienced Millwright, Fitter or Electrician who has progressed into a supervisory role and is comfortable combining hands-on technical maintenance with production and people supervision.
