Southern Oil Pty Ltd, an established company and market leader in manufacturing Canola oil and related products in the retail, food services, and bulk sectors, has the following exciting career opportunity in Swellendam.

POSITION INFO:

Short Summary:

The primary responsibility of this position is to install, inspect, adjust and repair equipment while following safety rules and regulations.
You will be required to maintain all equipment to the required standards and be responsive to production needs and equipment failures.

Responsibilities:

• Machine Maintenance
  • Must be able to read diagrams and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
  • Must be able to install stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment according to layout plans.
  • Must be able to inspect and examine machinery and equipment to detect irregularities and malfunctions.
  • Must be able to adjust machinery and repairing or replacing defective parts.
  • Oversee the operating machine tools to fabricate parts during repairs, modifications, and installations.
  • Assist with the sharpening and maintaining of machine tools as and when necessary.
  • Cleaning, lubricating, and performing other routine maintenance work on machinery.
• Safety and Compliance
  • Ensuring operating safety devices function correctly on completion of repairs, modifications, and installations.
  • Must adhere to workplace safety policies, regulations, and compliances in the Engineering Department.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
• Innovation and Assistance
  • Assist with implementing a Preventative Maintenance Program on all equipment for continuous improvement.
  • Must perform other related duties as and when required by your direct Supervisor.
• Reporting
  • Keep detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documents for the Engineering Department.

Key Competencies:

Education and Experience

• Qualified Trade Certificate
• Valid Code B driving license
• Minimum of 2 years relevant work experience
• Strong electrical knowledge would be an advantage
• Red Seal experience would be an advantage
• You will need to work overtime and be on standby
• Weekend check-in on the plant is essential
• You may be required to work shift work in the future

Technical Abilities

• Working knowledge of safety standards of equipment is essential
• Experience in Arc, TIG, and MIG welding is essential
• Experience using Industrial Computer Control Systems (PLC) would be an advantage
• Must be able to read technical and mechanical drawing
• Good understanding and knowledge of mechanical seals
• Good understanding and knowledge of pump maintenance
• Good understanding and knowledge of pneumatic systems
• Good understanding and knowledge of steam components and repairments
• Good understanding and knowledge of auger and conveyor systems
