Mid-level Platform Engineer (Infrastructure & Networking)

About the Role
A well-established data-driven organisation is seeking a Mid-level Platform Engineer (Infrastructure & Networking) to join its technical team. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing and evolving core infrastructure environments where performance, reliability, and scalability are critical to business success.

This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer who enjoys working close to the metal, solving complex infrastructure and networking challenges, and contributing to the continuous improvement of modern platform capabilities. You will work across on-premise/bare-metal systems, networking, storage, virtualization, and emerging container orchestration environments.

This is a technical, growth-focused role suited to a curious and self-driven individual who takes ownership of problems and enjoys building resilient systems in a fast-moving environment. You will collaborate closely with engineering and data teams to ensure platform stability and performance.

POSITION INFO:

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage, maintain, and optimize on-premise and bare-metal infrastructure environments
• Support and troubleshoot networking, storage, virtualization, and systems infrastructure
• Contribute to the evolution of Kubernetes and container orchestration capabilities
• Assist with automation, monitoring, observability, and operational tooling
• Troubleshoot complex infrastructure, performance, and network-related issues
• Work closely with engineering and data teams to improve platform reliability and scalability
• Take ownership of initiatives from concept through to production deployment
• Continuously improve operational processes, system resilience, and security practices

Required Skills:

• Strong Linux systems administration experience
• Solid networking fundamentals, including:
  • TCP/IP
  • Routing and switching
  • DNS
  • Firewalls
  • Load balancing
• Experience with bare-metal and/or on-premise infrastructure environments
• Experience with scripting and automation (e.g. Bash, Python, or similar)
• Strong problem-solving ability and systems thinking mindset
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical challenges

Desirable Skills:

• Experience with Kubernetes or other container orchestration platforms
• Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code and automation tooling
• Understanding of observability and monitoring stacks (metrics, logs, tracing)

Qualifications:

• Industry-related Degree or Diploma, or equivalent practical experience
• 3–5 years’ experience in infrastructure, systems administration, platform engineering, or a related technical environment
