SUMMARY:

One of South Africa's Banking Giants is looking for a Manager: Provincial Credit to evaluate and manage the credit and associated risks within an allocated portfolio in the Business Bank.


JOB DESCRIPTION:

Purpose Statement: 
  • To evaluate and manage the credit and associated risks within an allocated portfolio in Business Bank through leading, driving and inspiring a team of Credit and Senior Credit Managers responsible for providing credit support, from origination and assessment, on an Intuitive basis, to ongoing risk management.
  • To integrate and manage the credit function by ensuring that the quality of credit risks across the regions are aligned to the Bank’s risk appetite, which includes minimising the risk of loss through bad debts, while maximising profits and applying risk-based pricing, where appropriate.  
  • To evaluate, manage and monitor the credit and associated risks within a complex and high value portfolio (in addition to the supervision and management of the provincial portfolios).

Key Tasks and Accountabilities: 
Functional Strategy Execution
  • Collaborate with Head: Credit and Head: Intuitive Credit to contribute subject matter input towards the development of the Intuitive Credit Strategy.
  • Participate in the development of the Provincial Credit strategy by ensuring that the region remains up to date with industry developments, both within and outside the Bank, as well as alignment to the overall Bank’s strategy.
  • Conduct research of various industries, best practice methodologies and changes in markets thereby identifying risks to adjust lending parameters.
Portfolio Management
  • Managing the applicable credit portfolios to ensure that any problems are identified at an early stage and the appropriate remedial action is determined and taken through escalation as appropriate.
  • Accountable for early detection, management, and escalation of risk across the portfolios to mitigate and/or minimise potential losses.
  • Guide and lead the business and team members in structuring credit facility options and parameters for successful application of credit approvals.
  • Accountable for the quality of credit assessments measured as a percentage of non-performing loans and provisions raised.
Finance Management
  • Asset growth – Support provincial activity and initiatives to achieve the desired sales and profit objectives. Ensure a good balance between risk taken, risk priced and the desired growth.
  • Economic performance - Responsible for early arrear management to minimise non-performing loans in the region, and the risk of loss for the Bank.
People Management
  • Responsible for managing, inspiring, energising and driving a team of Credit/Senior Credit managers, while promoting the culture of the Bank.
  • Manage staff to ensure that work, quality and service standards are set, achieved and maintained.
  • Effectively delegate authority and responsibility, in line with business objectives, to ensure the empowerment, motivation and effectiveness of all direct and indirect reports.
  • Develop and maintain an open communication channel with direct reports and support staff to foster greater co-operation and teamwork.
Risk Management and Reporting
  • Proactively monitor, pre-empt, identify and minimise risks for the client, portfolio, region and the Bank.
  • Stay abreast with changes in the industry, legislation, etc. that may impact credit risk assessment and management methodologies.
  • Keep oversight of the Top 10 Credit/ Business risks in conjunction with the Head: Intuitive Credit.
  • Responsible for the alignment and adherence to the National Credit Act (NCA) and other applicable legislative requirements at all times
 Stakeholder Engagement
  • Responsible for delivering service beyond the expectations of stakeholders through the optimisation of team members.
  • Responsible for the ongoing clear and concise verbal and written communication across all levels of the Bank.
  • Build, strengthen and leverage internal networks with senior bank stakeholders to optimise co-operation, in order to drive service excellence and manage risk.
  • Break down barriers and develop influential relationships across team, functions and layers within the applicable regions/segments.
Qualifications: 
Minimum:
Bachelor's Degree in  Accounting - Financial Accounting or
Credit or Or CAIB qualification
Ideal: 
Honours Degree in  Accounting - Financial Accounting or Credit / CA(SA) ideal / advantageous
Knowledge and Experience: 
Knowledge
  • Commercial, business and financial principles and practices

  • Governance and risk management principles
  • Business processes, policies and systems
  • Application of relevant credit and risk legislation in an organisation (NCA, CPA, Companies Act, Insolvency Act, etc.)
  • Impact of regulatory bodies (BASA, SARB, SACCRA, NCR, and FIC) on the functioning of an organisation
Minimum experience
  • At least 3 years’ experience at Senior Management Level
  • 7 years Credit Management experience, within the Commercial and Business markets
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience
Ideal experience
  • 3+ years’ experience at Senior Management Level
  • 7+ years Credit Management experience, within the Commercial and Business markets
