MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGIST

This full-time 2 year fixed-term contract position will be based at in Groote Schuur, Cape Town. The main purpose of this position is to provide laboratory support for all studies at the site.
Requirements:
- Matric, plus National Diploma or B.Tech in Laboratory Technology
- Registration with HPCSA as a Laboratory Technologist
- 2-5 years laboratory work experience
- Computer skills : Email, Microsoft word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Planning and organizing skills
- Ability to work well in a team
- Ability to manage and tolerate stress
- Strong work ethics
Advantageous:
- 1-2 years previous Clinical Research Experience
- Knowledge of laboratory quality control procedures
- Good Clinical Practice Certification
Responsibilities:
- Ensure appropriate identification and collection of specimens
- Ensure correct processing of specimens in the lab
- Perform Rapid Tests and report results
- Prepare specimens for collection and liaise with laboratory with regards courier collection
- Inform study coordinator of abnormal results as per study protocol
- Manage laboratory documentation and Standard Operating Procedures
- Responsible for internal quality control (IQC) and external quality control (EQC) programs
