CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

To produce high quality original cataloguing records for library materials and learning resources according to recognised local, national and international standards; to classify library materials in all formats and across all subject arrears to support teaching, learning and research.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  1. Descriptive cataloguing of various publications and media
  2. Provide full subject analysis for various publications and media
  3. Assigns appropriate classification numbers to publications and media
  4. Performs authority control of access points in bibliographic records
  5. Assists with OPAC maintenance
  6. Maintain holdings information on WorldShare Records Manager
  7. Create and maintain metadata records in the institutional repository

CORE COMPETENCIES

 
  1. Experience with the Millennium / SIERRA Cataloguing module
  2. Experience with the OCLC Worldcat database / WorldShare Records Manager
  3. An in-depth knowledge of cataloguing and classification standards such as RDA, AACR2, MARC21, LCSH, LC Classification system, DDC and Dublin Core
  4. In-depth knowledge of electronic resources cataloguing
  5. Proven experience in bibliographic and authority control
  6. Accuracy and attention to detail
 

REQUIREMENTS

 

To be considered for appointment to this post, candidates must possess:

(M+3) ND: Library and Information Studies

A minimum of 4 years Cataloguing experience in an academic library
