SUMMARY:
Do you have post-admission experience in either regulatory affairs, governmental affairs and/or corporate affairs?

POSITION INFO:

Our Client is looking to employ a person to join their legal Legal team as Legal Counsel: 

Regulation and Compliance based in Cape Town.

The company’s legal team is split between Commercial and Regularities; this position is in regularities and is thus important that you come with that background

Do you have post-admission experience in either regulatory affairs, governmental affairs and/or corporate affairs; or

Do you have any policy-related experience i.e. providing business with a review of applicable policy landscape(s) and providing a policy review for business.

 

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Engage with a broad range of external and internal stakeholders to help shape the environment in which the company operates.
  • Develop and maintain regular contact with government, policymakers, regulators, industry associations on topics impacting the business. 
  • Build positive relationships with policymakers and drive the company’s advocacy efforts across multiple government departments, regulators and industry associations.
  • Pro-actively engage with policymakers, regulators on issues impacting e-commerce in order to positively shape policy debate and outcome.
  • Continually assess and address policy risks by monitoring the public policy landscape, the impact of public policy changes and advising to the business. 
  • Write or edit submissions to the government. 
  • Ensure that all businesses adhere to regulatory requirements.
  • Implement policies and procedures related to legal compliance and key risk areas
  • Develop and implement a regulatory and compliance training and communications program that raises awareness and educates employees
  • Ensure appropriate monitoring and oversight is in place to constantly improve and test the effectiveness of the overall compliance program. 
  • Collect information and data and report on the status of the compliance program to management and shareholders

Qualifications and Experience:

  • LLB, admitted attorney in South Africa or practicing advocate in South Africa
  • 3-5 years post admission experience at a well-established law firm or in the in-house legal department of a large corporate
  • 3-5 years’ experience in governmental affairs or corporate policy roles
  • Experience in Ecommerce would be ideal, but is not strictly required (Preferred)
