Legal Advisor (Temporary)

SUMMARY:
The main purpose of the Legal Advisor position is to provide Legal Drafting- and Litigation-assistance to the Company thereby assisting to minimise legal risk and exposure to the Company. This is a 6 month assignment

POSITION INFO:
Key stakeholders the Legal Advisor will engage with are:
External Legal Service Providers
Senior Managers
Litigation:
Assist to litigate on behalf of the Company to achieve the desired optimal outcome by investigating and gathering evidence on litigation matters, gain expert legal opinion and input when required to improve the Company litigation outcomes
Report on litigation matters by tracking progress and reporting as per standards within agreed deadlines
Service Provider Administration:
Identify Service Provider non–compliance or performance by tracking performance and referring issues to Legal Support Manager to address within agreed timeframes
Track Service Provider payment by reconciling invoices with allocated budget and deliverables, requesting additional information, addressing discrepancies and coordinating payments by finance monthly
Refer allocated legal matters by receiving instruction, contacting approved legal service provider and appointing in line with the relevant policies and procedures within turnaround time
Support internal stakeholders by receiving queries and requests and either implement action or referring appropriately within turnaround time
Legal Drafting & Contract Management:
Draft allocated contracts by receiving brief and compiling contract in line with defined standards and requirements, referring for comment, making amendments and submitting for final approval by agreed deadline
Conduct first review of contracts received from external parties by evaluating contracts, making notes and comments on contract and submitting for final review within approved timeframe
Coordinate the distribution and delivery of approved and amended contracts by identifying required recipients and coordinating delivery within deadlines
Legal Communication and Education:
Assist in communication and education on relevant new or changing legal information that affects or impacts the Company by reviewing legal decisions and prescripts, policies etc., identifying relevant information, drafting a summary of the new information and distributing once approved as required
Build the Company legal capacity by identifying common legal queries and questions from business and drafting communications to relevant staff and managers educating them on the issue and how to handle it as required
Qualifications and Experience:
LLB Degree or equivalent
Required computer literacy
Minimum 5 years’ experience in corporate legal support or regulatory legal support position or associate position in a law firm
