POSITION INFO:

CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

In line with the Department of Higher Education and Training''s New Generation Academic Programme (nGAP) and the Faculty of ARTS vision of advancing the revitalization of the humanities. The department of Sociology and Anthropology seeks to appoint a self- motivated, aspiring sociology academic to contribute in teaching and research responsibilities of the department. This lecturer post will be made in accordance with the university recruitment policy and DHET transformation imperatives. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute meaningfully to the broader academic project of the department

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • Teaching at both undergraduate and post graduate level
  • Conduct research, attend academic conferences and publish to improve the research profile of the faculty
  • The candidate will be expected to complete PhD within five years from the date of assumptions of duties
  • Collaborative team member towards Sociology curriculum revitalisation

CORE COMPETENCIES

 
  • Ability to teach at undergraduate and post graduate level
  • Ability to supervise and mentor at undergraduate and post graduate level
  • Ability to conduct research independently
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people
  • Familiarity and investment in contributing to Sociological knowledge in (South) Africa
 

REQUIREMENTS

 
  • A Masters qualification in Sociology or related field
  • Proof of registration for a PhD in Sociology with evidence of good progress
  • Undergraduate  teaching/tutoring  experience
