CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

The purpose of the post is to facilitate and administer the teaching and learning activities in modules incorporating comprehensive primary health care and clinical skills development for Medical and Health Science students in the Faculty of Health Sciences’ Medical School. To participate in research and to contribute to the academic and community engagement as well as being involved in the core functions of the University.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

1. Contribute to teaching and learning activities for comprehensive primary health care and clinical skills.
2. Facilitate the learner’s application of theoretical knowledge to clinical practice.
3. To assess students, including formative and summative assessment.
4. To provide timeous academic feedback and related support to students.
5. To contribute to the effective running of the Clinical Skills laboratory.
6. To be involved in research activities of the Medical School of the Faculty of Health Sciences.

CORE COMPETENCIES

1. Application and facilitation of diverse teaching and learning methodologies for Comprehensive Primary Health Care and Clinical skills to Medical and Health Science students.
2. Ensure assessments are quality-controlled and standardized, and that learning materials and equipment are in place.
3. Sound knowledge Health Care related legislation, Primary Health care and Public Health systems.
4. Ability to actively engage with students and provide a student-focused learning approach.
5. Knowledge of research theory and applications in Primary Health Care.
6. MSWord, PowerPoint and Excel skills and the willingness to learn internal software programs.

REQUIREMENTS

Academic

Undergraduate degree in a health profession.

Master’s degree in a clinical or health professions education field or MBChB degree.

Registration

Registration with relevant health professions authority.

Teaching Experience and skills

Minimum of three (3) years clinical work experience which includes a minimum of two (2) years in teaching primary health care.

Research

Evidence of research must be provided.
