CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

The purpose of the post is to facilitate and administer the learning process for students in theoretical and practical modules as presented by the Nelson Mandela University Nursing Science Department at under and postgraduate level, to participate in research, to contribute to the academic and community engagement as well as being involved in the core functions of the university.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

1. Sound knowledge of the theory and application in relevant disciplines in nursing, particularly Advanced General Nursing or Critical Care Nursing or Emergency Nursing.
2. Experience in facilitation of teaching and learning activities and practices at under and/or postgraduate academic and clinical programs.
3. Contribute to curriculum development and implementation at under and/or postgraduate level.
4. Contribute to research within Nursing Science.
5. Create knowledge through research and publications.
6. Establish a national reputation in own field of expertise through collaboration, consultation and involvement in policy processes or projects.
7. Research supervision, and involvement in faculty research projects, interprofessional education (IPE) involvement.  

CORE COMPETENCIES

1. Application of diverse teaching and learning methodologies for under and postgraduate programs.
2. Experience in facilitation of teaching and learning at under and/or postgraduate levels.
3. Knowledge of research theory and applications in Nursing Science.
4. Knowledge of curriculum development and implementation at under and/or postgraduate levels.
5. Co-supervising postgraduate research candidates (Masters and Honours).
6. Contribute to the development and implementation of short learning programs or other Continuous Development Programs.
7. Contribute to seminars and/or other research outputs.

REQUIREMENTS

Education

Master’s degree in Advanced General Nursing Science or Critical Care Nursing

Emergency Nursing or trauma Nursing

Registration with SANC as a registered nurse

Registration with SANC as a Nurse Educator or Evidence of application to SANC to be registered as an educator

Registration with SANC as an assessor and moderator/ Evidence of application to SANC to be registered as an Assessor/Moderator

Experience and skills

Minimum of two (2) years teaching experience in General Nursing

Minimum of two years’ clinical work experience

Evidence of postgraduate research supervision is required
