POSITION INFO:

CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

Responsible for the delivery of the under-graduate clinical communication skills curriculum and to promote integration of these skills within an evolving curriculum. To develop innovative ways of understanding and facilitating clinical communication in healthcare, with a focus on the Calgary Cambridge model of clinical communication.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  1. Developing an effective applied multi-lingualism and clinical communication curriculum for under- graduate Medical and Health Sciences students from the outset of their training program.
  2. Teaching undergraduate Medical and Health Sciences students in clinical communication skills and applied multilingualism in academic, clinical and community settings.
  3. Applying horizontal and vertical integration of clinical communication across modules.
  4. Application of creative teaching methodologies and technologies, including blended and online approaches.
  5. Assessment of students, including formative and summative assessments in academic, clinical and community settings.
  6. Conducting research to advance the field of clinical communication, and providing research supervision to undergraduate Medical and Health Science students.
  7. Performing departmental administrative tasks as required.

CORE COMPETENCIES

  1. Experience in teaching clinical communication in a clinical setting.
  2. Knowledge        or experience of the Calgary Cambridge framework, or patient-centered communication.
  3. Sound and up-to-date subject knowledge of clinical practice and terminology.
  4. Experience in current teaching methodologies and excellent student-focused teaching skills.
  5. Experience in research within Health Sciences.
  6. Good administrative skills.
  7. Sound computer literacy and knowledge of learning management system software packages and the willingness to learn additional software packages.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Academic

Undergraduate degree in a health care profession.

Master’s degree in a clinical or health professions education field or MBChB degree.

Registration

Registration with relevant health professions authority.

Teaching Experience and skills

Minimum of three (3) years clinical work experience which includes a minimum of two (2) years clinical teaching experience.

Research

Evidence of research must be provided.
