POSITION INFO:

CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

In line with the Department of Higher Education and Training’s New Generation Academic Programme (nGAP) and the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology’s vision of advancing the study of issues relating to the 4th industrial revolution, the Department of Industrial Engineering needs a competent person to complement the existing skill set within the department in light of current and future technological developments in manufacturing and operations.

The core purpose of this post is to create, develop and facilitate the acquisition of knowledge, skills and attributes required by students enabling them to function effectively within the engineering profession and as productive members of the broader society operating in technologically advanced systems.

  • Facilitate the learning processes and objectives of the department
  • Conduct, supervise and publish research
  • Perform academic engagement
  • Perform administration

CORE COMPETENCIES

  • In-depth knowledge of theory and application in the relevant or related discipline within automated manufacturing and service environments
  • Ability to develop and analyse automated systems and associated Management Information Systems using simulation packages
  • Ability to facilitate learning at undergraduate level and potential to contribute at postgraduate level
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a multicultural environment
  • Have contributed or have the potential to contribute to the creation of knowledge by virtue of published research and involvement in relevant engagement activities
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team

REQUIREMENTS

  • A 4-year BEng degree in Industrial  Engineering, or a 4-year Engineering qualification which includes the discipline of computer engineering
  • A relevant Masters (a minimum mark of 70%)
  • A doctoral degree would be an added advantage
  • In the case of an Engineering qualification, Professional registration with ECSA as a Technologist/Engineer or eligibility to register within a period of three years
  • 5 years appropriate industry experience, in varied industries would be an added advantage.

Preference will be given to suitably qualified Engineers with experience in some of the following fields:

  • Engineering education,
  • Course development,
  • Life-cycle engineering (HSI, MBSE)
  • Advanced manufacturing technologies and power sources
  • Inventor, Scada (or similar)
  • AMH systems
  • Internet of Things
  • Automated manufacturing systems (PLC, CNC, Robotics)

The successful candidate should be able to facilitate modules in the following fields: (under-graduate and post-graduate level):

Engineering materials, Advanced Engineering materials, CAD, Manufacturing Engineering, Automation, Applied Systems Engineering

Candidates who are invited for an interview may be required to present a lecture on a topic provided by the department.
