POSITION INFO:

CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

Teaching Human Anatomy, Embryology and Histology to undergraduate and postgraduate Medical and Health Sciences students, through the application of teaching and learning in Integrated Basic Medical Science Modules.

 KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  1. Teaching Human Anatomy/Embryology/Histology to undergraduate Medical and Health Sciences students.
  2. Curriculum development and ensuring the delivery of an integrated Human Anatomy/Embryology/Histology module.
  3. Effectively using the available technological resources for teaching and learning.
  4. Assessment of students, including formative and summative assessment.
  5. Providing timeous academic and related support to students.
  6. Contributing to the effective running of the Human Anatomy Laboratory.
  7. Contributing to the development of Human Anatomy/Embryology/Histology research and provide supervision to undergraduate and postgraduate students within the Faculty.
  8. Performing duties in line with the South African National Health Act 61 of 2003.

CORE COMPETENCIES 

  1. Experience in curriculum development/module management of Human Anatomy courses.
  2. Experience in the practice of blended learning to enhancing the teaching of Human Anatomy/Embryology/Histology.
  3. Proven experience in working with human tissue (cadaveric and histological).
  4. Proven and excellent student-focused teaching skills in Human Anatomy.
  5. Ability to actively engage with students and provide a student-focused learning approach.
  6. Ability to provide oversight to ensure that assessments are quality-controlled and standardized, and that learning materials and equipment are in place.
  7. Sound research experience in Human Anatomy/Embryology/Histology, including supervision. Good managerial and administrative skills.
  8. MSWord, PowerPoint and Excel skills and the willingness to learn internal software programs.

POST REQUIREMENTS

Academic

Master’s degree in Human Anatomy or a related clinical degree

Registration

Registration with relevant health professions or scientific authority where applicable to qualification

Teaching experience

Two years’ full-time teaching Human Anatomy/Embryology/Histology at University level

Research

Evidence of research and publications in accredited peer-reviewed journal must  be provided
