CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

Is to create, develop and facilitate the acquisition of musical knowledge and skills by individuals in order that they can function effectively within the music profession and as productive members of the broader society.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

• To teach studio voice lessons in jazz and contemporary music and lead vocal ensembles. 
• To accompany singing for individual singing and for vocal ensembles. 
• To facilitate the learning and teaching in the department.
• To incorporate appropriate recording and sound technology in music teaching and performance. 
• To conduct and publish research or produce appropriate performances and creative outputs.
• To perform academic and music engagement.
• To perform administration.

CORE COMPETENCIES

• In-depth knowledge of the theory and application of jazz and contemporary voice.  
• Extensive experience at facilitating learning at undergraduate and some experience at postgraduate level.
• Has preferably contributed to the creation of knowledge and music performance or has the potential to contribute by virtue of publications or appropriate creative outputs, and the ability to supervise postgraduate candidates.
• Proficiency in accompaniment and choral training will be a recommendation.

REQUIREMENTS

In order to be considered for appointment to this post, candidates preferably should have a profile as a performer in the genre of jazz and contemporary music, and a master’s degree with supervision experience. If shortlisted, candidates will be expected to teach a demonstration lesson as part of an interview.
