CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

To create, produce and design online digital course content for online teaching including Learner (User) Experience Design research. This includes design, production and art direction of educational learning objects such as videos, illustrations, animations and data visualisations in a corporate identity framework and aligned to sound pedagogical theory. Provision of design support for learning, teaching, research, learning analytics and academic development initiatives. Creative direction of digital course content in an academic development and curriculum context.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

Rendering a Learning Experience Design service to clients by means of own skills and creativity, specialized computer software and equipment in:

• Responsible for the creative and design output within assigned projects and jobs
• Executing design and production of all learning objects in assigned online learning projects
• creating and developing learning video graphics, audio-visual slide shows
• Producing and/or directing photography and/or video in collaboration with the Video Producerand/or Photographer
• Photo manipulation and editing
• Designing and producing illustrations, animations, scientific diagrams, charts other data visualization elements or graphic elements
• Ensuring deadlines are met
• Deputizing for other team leaders
• Advise clients, Production teams, Academic Development and Learning Design teams regarding the selection, design, planning, producing of learning objects
• Participate and contribute to Academic Development, Data and Learning Design project teams
• Provide guidance on creative production and execution of projects
• Lead design and creative thinking processes in multi-disciplinary team environment
• Provide design and creative input into academic development curriculum and learning design processes

CORE COMPETENCIES

• Manage the workflow for the design and production of assigned online learning projects
• Maintain an effective and efficient filing system for all studio work done
• Generate service requisitions as required
• Initiate accurate billing as required
• Keep records of all source documentation

REQUIREMENTS

• BTech/Honours Degree in Graphic Design/Multimedia/Education as a minimum qualification
• Preference will be given to candidates with additional qualifications in Instructional Design
• A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the field of multimedia or learning design, in the education or learning and development sectors.
• Competence in the Adobe Creative Suite on Mac (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop and Acrobat Professional) in professional studio context
• Experience with LMS-based activity tools is essential
• Microsoft Office – Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
