Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Learning and Development Coordination

  • Complete support relating to Learning and Development Administration    
  • Providing support to the learning and development team members.
  • Coordinate all agreed functional and operational training plans for the L&D Department under the guidance of the L&D Specialist and L&D Coordinator
  • Effectively, accurately, and timeously coordinate the logistics for learning activities, events and conferences which may include but will not be limited to:
    • Training calendar
    • Internal or external venues
    • Learning material, tools, and equipment
    • Flights, transportation, and accommodation
    • Order and track training materials, equipment and catering
  • Communicate all training initiatives effectively and timeously with all learning stakeholders
  • Acting in the role of a learning ambassador and advisor to team members by providing necessary information timeously
  • Assist with the management of the full invoice process to ensure suppliers are paid timeously and within budget
  • Drive continuous improvement and self-development
  • Manage relationships with internal & external stakeholders
  • Assistance with induction programmes when required        


  • Update training records on the LMS and other required databases continuously.
  • Generate, track, and maintain learning reports, licences, certificates and records 
  • Assist with the compilation of monthly reports that fall within Learning and Development including internal charge outs to the Divisions.

Supporting Maritime Academy

  • Act as receptionist to the Academy on a rotational basis with other L&D Coordinators
  • Ensure all classrooms and material are ready for learners prior to training commencing
  • Ensure all Academy Catering is ordered correctly in advance
  • Ensure attendance records and registration of learners is done prior to training commencing at the Academy
  • New Entrant Administration (Learnerships, Internship, Apprenticeships and Graduates)
  • Assist with the compilation and maintenance of records of progress, where required
  • Assist with the completion of all administration and coordination of all training based at the Maritime Academy
  • Assist the Academy Manager with Academy accreditation where necessary
  • Assistance with coordination of Small-Scale Fishers Training and Hout Bay Community Training
  • Perform additional duties as required
  • Provide assistance for onsite 3rd party training providers delivering training at the Academy

Knowledge, skills and attributes:

  • SAP experience an advantage
  • High degree of current technical knowledge
  • High degree of accuracy
  • Excellent Interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to apply initiative, good judgement and creative thinking
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Good business acumen

Ability to work under pressure and be dead-line driven

Qualifications and Experience

  • Matric is essential, a relevant tertiary qualification is beneficial
  • Minimum of 2 to 3 years of proven experience in a similar role
  • Knowledge of the Skills Development Act, Skills Development Levies Act and Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment is advantageous
  • Experience or knowledge of digital / online presence and content strategy is beneficial
  • Previous experience in submission of ATR/WSP’s and knowledge of SETA processes and requirements beneficial
  • Experience working with SAP is advantageous
