A Laboratory Supervisor (2 Years FTC) vacancy is available at our Client, Wits Health Consortium's Clinical Laboratory Services (CLS) in Braamfontein, Johannesburg - Gauteng.

Background

The Clinical Laboratory Services (CLS), is a division of the Wits Health Consortium (WHC) of the School of Pathology. 

CLS’s main purpose is to support the teaching and research activities of the School of Pathology through the provision of laboratory services, diagnostic and research advice and data management support in accordance with the standards of Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP).

CLS is an accredited laboratory and has a comprehensive quality management plan to ensure adherence to GCLP and its accreditation standards ensuring the integrity of clinical laboratory for clinical trial study participant care. CLS has achieved on-going certifications for SANAS (South African National Accreditation System) ISO 15189 and GCLP Accreditation through the British Qualogy Group and is also inspected by the Division of AIDS (DAIDS) annually. 

Main purpose of the job

• Responsible for the co-ordination of the capturing and distribution of all specimens and ensures correct information is obtained and recorded for specimen storage and ensuring daily operations run optimally

• Lister Spencer Building, Braamfontein

Key performance areas

• Checking of data entry of specimens according to defined protocols for private patients, clinical trials, etc. on databases
• Coordination of sample shipping and storage
• Ensure suitable cleaning and preparation of equipment components such as racks and glassware
• Report any problems with equipment to the Laboratory manager
• Sign log sheets to ensure that instruments have been maintained and are in proper working order
• Shift and call-out rotation roster
• Monitor workflow and implement changes when identified
• Maintain and update SOP’s when required
• Identify and implement training for staff
• Attend to all staffing requirements and administration
• Supervise and manage the duties of subordinates

Required minimum education and training

• Grade 12 with Maths, Science and Biology

Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities

• Registration with HPCSA (Laboratory Assistant) preferably
• Good Clinical Laboratory Practice courses
• Experience in a Clinical Trial environment will be advantageous

Required minimum work experience

• 2 Years’ experience as a Laboratory Coordinator
