Our client, a Global Strategy and Management Business Consultancy firm is currently in search of a motivated Legal & Compliance Officer to join their dynamic Corporate Services team.

You will be responsible for implementing operational controls and embedding a risk and compliance awareness culture within the business.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

To ensure that the business processes and transactions follow all relevant legal and internal company guidelines.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Compliance

  • Develop, document, update as well as maintain group-wide compliance, regulatory protocols and policies. Review of all critical business policies from a regulatory compliance perspective and make recommendations for improvement annually.
  • Responsible for overall compliance advice to Management to ensure compliance with all applicable legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Regulatory follow up on issues identified and raised to ensure resolution of corrective actions.
  • Establish a sound compliance and corporate governance framework.
  • Ability to assist with the implementation, compliance, and monitoring of the Protection of Personal Information Act and GDPR.
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently with relevant internal parties and departments to support a seamless integration of compliance management by encouraging and facilitating cooperation.
  • Ensure that internal controls are in place to provide reasonable assurance of compliance with established company regulatory requirements and that all external regulatory requirements are complied with.
  • Recognize gaps in existing processes or arising from new regulations and ensure that the correct remedial action is put into place to close the gaps
  • Provide professional advice and guidance on compliance matters and resolutions of compliance monitoring issues.
  • Maintaining a “compliance” repository on SharePoint of relevant templates and documents.
  • Identify and provide staff (individuals and/or teams) with relevant training needs on various legislative, policy and compliance requirements
  • Conduct internal audits and reviews at regular intervals to ensure that compliance procedures are followed.
  • Provide strategic support to senior leadership on the implementation of relevant compliance framework & the impact to the business.
  • Complete special projects, and miscellaneous duties as prescribed by Management

Legal

  • Assistance with review, compilation, finalisation and risk mitigation of all client and subcontractor contracts.
  • Conduct research when necessary, compile required reports and papers and make legally sound recommendations regarding legal and compliance issues.
  • Report monthly on the status of contracts and attend to renewals and terminations thereof.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies where necessary.
  • Draft correspondence to various third parties when necessary.
  • Confidently respond to queries and any investigations from external and internal parties.
  • Apply knowledge of current legislation in identifying non-conformance and related risk.
  • Ensure that all business practices, processes as well as activities are consistent with appropriate regulatory and statutory obligations.

Monitoring

  • Monitor, and maintain supplier due diligence system. Identify gaps & deficiencies in system and respond appropriately.
  • Identify, investigate and report to management on suspicious or high-risk suppliers and transactions.
  • Periodically evaluate existing suppliers according to established policies and procedures .
  • Monitor developments in all compliance aspects affecting the company and its operations and conduct regular internal compliance monitoring audits.
  • Escalate any significant compliance issues to Management.
  • Assist with the preparation for independent compliance reviews and external audits.
  • Ensure technical correctness of policy documents drafted through regular research and training.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree/diploma in Law
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience within a governance or compliance role, specifically gained within a business consulting environment
  • Solid experience implementing risk management operational controls
  • Solid track record in developing and implementing strong risk mitigation solutions.
  • High proficiency with MS Office, in particular Excel and Word.
