Junior Software Engineer

POSITION INFO:

What We’re Looking For:

You will be part of a team of passionate engineers responsible for building and maintaining GetSmarter''s marketing and e-commerce website. Your work will influence students'' first impression of the company and will therefore have a significant impact on its success. In this role you will have the opportunity to engage business stakeholders, designing and architecting the future of our ecommerce solution.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:

Technical

• Ensure that the integrity of the business domain products are maintained.
• Follow and contribute to best practices when completing work.
• Adhere to test-driven development practices.
• Research and recommend technology to meet business requirements.
• Define structure of new modules.

People

• Work with team members to provide story points for upcoming work.
• Provide timely feedback on work being done to the relevant stakeholders.
• Work with the engineering lead to help grow more junior team members.
• Participate in technical interviews.

Accountability for results

• Communicate progress effectively with team members and business stakeholders.
• Make sure best practices are followed by team members.
• Drive solutions when maintenance issues arise.

Business

• Work with stakeholders to clarify and define requirements.
• Provide business domain knowledge to help drive decision making by business.
• Understand the roadmap and how current work relates to the strategic goals.
• Contribute to developing product strategy.
• Effectively communicate technological limitations to business.

Personal

• Actively look for opportunities to improve and drive self-improvement.

Things That Should Be In Your Background:

• Diploma or degree in relevant software development field.
• 2 years web development experience.
• Experience with the following technologies required:
• JavaScript, CSS and HTML.
• Ruby on Rails (or a similar MVC framework).
• REST APIs.
• Writing units tests.
• Source control.
• Familiarity with ecommerce solutions would be a bonus.
