Junior Blueberry Specialist

SUMMARY:
One of the country’s leading fruit exporters is seeking a young dynamic Blueberry Specialist. Technical knowledge of Berry production and procurement is considered as a non-negotiable. Own transport is also a non-negotiable as there will be extensive travelling between Limpopo, Mpumalanga and Cape Town.

POSITION INFO:

Education:
·         Matric and/or relevant degree
·         Relevant degree would be a bonus
 
Requirements:
·         3- 5 years’ relevant work experience in the fruit and/or agricultural industry with an accomplished Berry production/technical/sales track record.
·         Technical knowledge of Berry production, packing and quality.
·         Procurement and grower services.
·         Product Management.
 
Duties and responsibilities amongst others:
·         Breeding programs:
o   Stay up to date with latest cultivar development.
o   Regular communication with different breeding programs.
o   Complete pre-season estimate per variety.
o   Declaration of Actual volumes to Breeding Club.
o   Ensure that the company complies to the Breeding Club agreement.
·         Grower & Marketing & Quality Assistance.
o   To advise growers on the best cultivation & packing practices to ensure that the product fits and benefits the company’s marketing plan.
o   Providing technical background on quality problems through analysis of quality data compiled into a grower review report and pre-shipment inspections.
o   Advise marketing on the best option for fruit according to condition and internal quality.
·         Postharvest technology and treatments:
o   To make informed decision for product and to obtain best opportunity for marketing to optimize harvest.
o   Compiling/Keep up to date reports and protocols.
o   Managing trails.
·         Preseason planning
o   Demand Planning - Demands & allocations to customers.
o   re-season carton and internal packaging items order.
o   All relevant QMS documentation is maintained or completed.
·         Packing Program Management
o   Ensure up to date weekly estimates are received from Area Managers and updated on the ERP system.
o   Allocation of estimates against demands.
o   Manage and follow up on packing programs distributed to producers.
o   Check availability of packing material vs programs and order in season from Packaging Material Manager to ensure availability.
·         Grower payments
o   Authorize Advances.
o   DIP or Cost adjustments.
o   Fix Price agreements.
·         Communication
·         Recommendation to producers and market through 2 weekly/monthly technical report.
·         Market reports.
·         Stay up to date on technical information.
·         Attend field days, seminars, courses.
 
Attributes / Requirements:
·         Knowledge of the KPAs mentioned.
·         Attention to detail when reporting.
·         Good computer software skills.
·         Good communication and interaction skills with people on all levels in the organization.
·         Be able to manage pressure.
·         Ability to adhere to strict deadlines.
·         Ability to work remotely but still be an integral part of a larger team.
·         Own transport.
·         Undertake travel locally.
