JUNIOR QUANTITY SURVEYOR

SUMMARY:
Responsible to determine the best estimates for the projects, develop bills of quantities, contribute to the development of contract documents, cost control, valuing deliverables, analysis of project submissions and reporting as well as monitoring and control of the construction process.

POSITION INFO:

Project Scope and Costing

• Develop and submit Bills of Quantities
• Establish a costing analysis and deliver the cost schedule/plan

Project Cost Planning

• Prepare cost analysis based on the architectural drawings, engineering estimates, materials required, sketches, condition assessments and labour involved
• Prepare cost plans to enable design teams to produce practical designs for construction projects, which involve liaising with architects, engineers and SMMEs

Tender and Contract Management

• Assist in preparing of tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities
• Where required, negotiate with the contractors and all relevant stakeholders

Monitor and Reporting

• Monitor and keep track of project progress and are responsible for the measurement and valuation of variations in the work during the contract, for agreement of interim payments and the final account
• Conduct monthly valuations of work in progress, including forecasting of final costs and sales for next period
• Provide support in certification of SMME monthly valuations and final accounts
• Prepare formal reports in accordance with project timetable
• Submit all relevant information to the Quantity Surveyor for review at the specified intervals set

Provide systems support for the programme

• Upskill continuously on organizational and market-related knowledge, Company internal processes and procedures and current project management trends
• Attend job related training as required

Minimum Requirements

• B.Sc (QS) university degree, or B-Tech degree after a further year of study
• At least 3 years’ experience in the construction of houses Preferred Requirement Experience in site and quality management in the Human Settlement environment Experience working in a construction site

Competencies:

• Ability to complete all project documentation for measurement and quality of work done to project specification and submittal of some to the Quantity Surveyor. 
• Ability to perform site measurements and translate to BOQs Ability to complete daily reports on quality and quantity of project deliverables. 
• Ability to perform Quality Assurance Understanding of the building industry, including knowledge of materials, trades, methods and legal requirements Technically competent in construction Ability to make sure that the work and materials meet the required standard Attributes: Appreciation for development of communities
