Investment Analyst / Junior Portfolio Manager

SUMMARY:

Investment Company in Cape Town Southern Suburbs has an opportunity available for an Investment Analyst/Junior Portfolio Manager who will report to the Investment Strategist and Portfolio Manager responsible for a range of multi-asset funds, employee benefit solutions and global equity fund of fund offerings

Purpose of the position:

• Working with the relevant Portfolio Manager; providing research/analysis and reporting input on the following (including but not limited to):
• Global macro-economic variables (economic growth, inflation, interest rates, etc. ) for input into the Portfolio Manager and the team’s wider macro-economic research efforts
• A variety of financial market variables (eg. Equity markets, bond markets, property markets, currency markets, etc.) for input into the Portfolio Manager and team’s decision-making frameworks
• Work with the Portfolio Manager w.r.t daily portfolio management activities on a variety of multi-asset funds/portfolios and global equity fund of funds
• Working with the Portfolio Manager w.r.t reporting and presentations to various parties (including Wealth Advisors, Clients, etc.) and at different forums

• Wealth Advisors and member of the Asset Management team

POSITION INFO:

Qualification and Experience Required:

• B Com Hons Degree (or similar) in Investments (preferably), Economics or Finance and with CFA Level 1 already passed
• Minimum 18 – 24 months experience in Investments and Asset Management

Computer Competency Required:

• Microsoft Office, with a specific requirement for strong Excel skills (v-lookups, formulas, basic coding, etc)
• Refinitiv Datastream  knowledge advantageous

KPA/Strategic Business Deliverables:

• Analyse the global economic landscape and financial markets in order to highlight risks and opportunities
• Continuous monitoring and critical assessment of macro-economic and geo-political variables in order to provide input into the Portfolio Manager and the house’s macro-economic assumptions that are used in the various asset valuations models
• Continuous monitoring and critical assessment of financial markets in order to highlight risks and opportunities to the Portfolio Manager, and wider Asset Management team
• Assist the Portfolio Manager with portfolio management tasks and responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
• Assist with daily cash-flow management for various funds and portfolios
• Regular updating of various models, analyses, spreadsheets, etc. used by the Portfolio Manager
• Reporting and queries/questions (including, but not limited to):
• Assist with regular reporting to various stakeholders:  the CIO, the business, the Asset Management team, the Advice team, clients, etc
• Administration (including, but not limited to):
• Provide commentaries for MDDs and information sheets
• Take minutes at meetings
• Respond to clients’ queries
