Intermediate Software Engineer

An accounting services firm in Cape Town is looking for a persistent, creative, passionate and driven Intermediate Software Engineer with a desire to deliver robust and innovative software solutions. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor''''s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum 3 years of programming experience.
• Broad experience designing, documenting, programming, testing, and implementing large scale systems.
• Ability to provide in-depth evaluation and analysis of unique complex technological issues.
• More than 3 years'''' experience in financial/insurance environment
• Strong C# programming skills essential!!!!!  
• .NET Core
• ASP .NET
• Angular or similar (optional)
• Docker
• Microservices
• Message Queueing
• Microsoft SQL
• PostgreSQL
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent organization and time management skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgement in the performance of duties.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Knowledge  

• Engineers at this level should have an in-depth knowledge of tooling and keep abreast of new technologies, industry best practices and available vendor packages.
• Good Object orientation and separation of concerns principals is a must.
• They have good understanding of design patterns and their application and have a knack for writing clean, readable code.
• Familiarity with continuous integration and automated testing platforms and unit tests is a must.

Time and Task Management

• An important skill is the ability to estimate the amount of time needed to complete a task, communicating this and delivering on it
• Exceptional developers are great at managing their clients or leaders instead of you managing them
• Therefore, we expect that Intermediate Developers has good time and task management skills.

Quick Learning Ability

• Great developers are usually amazing self-learners
• Ability to learn new technologies on their own and aren’t intimidated by new technologies.
• Ability to pull dissimilar bits of information and process information on the fly
• Every developer will experience a situation where he or she doesn’t know the answer. Great developers will find different resources, talk to the right people and find the solution no matter what
• The best skill anyone can have is knowing how to learn, and great developers have mastered the skill of self-learning.

Collaboration  

• Oversee continuous improvement of support knowledge base repositories to ensure all processes and procedures are documented in a clear and concise manner and that periodic reviews of documentation are conducted.

Mentorship

• Mentorship might be required towards Junior Engineers and therefore support and development of Junior Engineers by providing advice, coaching and educational opportunities is of the utmost importance.
