PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

To outline the responsibilities and authorities the Instrumentation Manager has in relation to post requirements of managerial, technical and key support personnel.

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the day to day supervision, coordination and operation of the instruments, ICP, XRF, LECO, TGA, Pyctometer, at the Rustenburg Laboratory.
  • Responsible for planning, reviewing and monitoring of capital, revenue and expense budgeting.
  • Responsible for sample routing, formulating changes, improving work flow and maximum utilization of resources in the departments.
  • Coordinate Method Development and Method Validation.
  • Responsible for effective and appropriate use of equipment and facilities.
  • Responsible for development, effective utilization and supervision of human resources within the department, including training and discipline.
  • Keep abreast of new trends, current development in Analytical Science.
  • Client liaison is essential.
  • Assist with results evaluation.
  • Determine, manage and drive initiatives in order to implement and monitor accreditation requirements as per SGS and ISO17025 requirements.
  • Responsible for Health and Safety within the ICP department.
  • Ensure that company policies are adhered to by the staff.
  • Comply and conform to the QHSE policy of the company.
  • Must be fully acquainted with the LIMS system (Cclas EL).
  • Must comply and conform to the Quality Management System (ISO17025 and SANAS).
  • Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.
  • Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by direct line manager.
  • Any person has the right to refuse to perform work that may damage the environment in an imminent and serious way and to report such a situation.  The employee has the responsibility to protect the environment as well.
  • Address client complaints.
  • Validate, approve and authorize analytical results.
  • Authorise re-assays of nonconforming results.
  • Authorise and sign-off competency of staff.
  • Authorise and sign-off documents for use within department.
  • Approve appointment of incumbent employees.
  • Discipline errant employees.
  • Authorise and validate new analytical methods and calibration standards for use.
  • Authorise and manage leave.
  • Authorise and manage overtime and shift rosters.
  • The Health & safety, Quality management system and Production are the key responsibilities.
  • Cease the use of any equipment that may be deemed to constitute a safety hazard or entry to hazardous environments without the necessary knowledge and protection, and take action to address the hazard.
  • Cease to carry on with work that may affect the quality (integrity) of services and take action to address the issue.
  • Initiate a formal improvement request when a deviation of the system occurs, possible improvements are identified or when nonconformity is identified.
 

REQUIRED SKILLS

Education

  • B.Sc, BTech or National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years in relevant field.
  • Solid Management/Senior Supervisory experience.

Competencies

  • Must have full understanding of the LIMS system.
  • Knowledge of Laboratory Quality Management System.
  • Excellent problem solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Good co- ordination and management skills.
