Instrument and Automation Technician

Our client is seeking to appoint an Instrument and Automation Technician, who will be responsible for repairs and maintenance of all instrumentation installations and automation within the Smelter Business Unit with the aim of improving plant availability, reliability, increasing equipment performance and minimising production downtime. The role reports to the Foreman: Electrical & Instrumentation.

Knowledge and Experience:

• IT knowledge – understanding of networking principles/modern industrial networks (profibus, profinet etc.) and latest technology in industrial instrumentation.
• Siemens S7 PLC knowledge
• WinCC SCADA and HMI development
• Knowledge of management of change (MOC) or process change management protocols
• Knowledge of HAZOP studies and process control systems.
• Piping and instrumentation diagrams
• Control Loops
• Maintenance Scheduling
• Ability to identify and proactively address instrumentation concerns.
• Knowledge and adherence to the permit to work system

Essential requirements include:

• National Diploma (S4) Electrical Engineering/ Instrumentation (Light Current)
• Trade Test as an instrumentation Technician will be an advantage
• 5 years’ relevant experience in a mining or manufacturing environment

This role will suit a results-driven Instrument and Automation Technician, with good communication skills and a strong sense of accountability in delivering well-planned, quality work on schedule, while also being flexible and decisive in handling unplanned equipment stoppages.
