POSITION INFO:

Role

An Instructional Designer is responsible for designing and developing the necessary digital content for product and skills training learning material using computer software and other technologies to streamline education courses for students and professionals. This also includes designing and developing assessments, quizzes and training scenarios and ensuring all learning materials support the achievement of learning/training objectives.

 

Responsibilities

  • Create engaging learning activities and compelling course content that enhances retention and transfer • Creates computer-based training (CBT) modules and storyboards. 
  • Create and support learning solutions for multiple delivery methods including instructor-led, web-based, virtual classroom, and blended instruction. 
  • Create supporting material/media (audio, video, simulations, role plays, games etc) to ensure interactive learning and design content to optimise learning. 
  • Work with subject matter experts and identify target audience’s training needs • Develop and design courses and curriculum. 
  • Edit and develop online learning materials.
  • State instructional end goals and create content that matches them. 
  • Visualize instructional graphics, the user interface and the finished product. 
  • Conduct instructional research and analysis on learners and contexts. 
  • Apply tested instructional design theories, practice and methods. 
  • Perform ongoing administration and support of the LMS. 
  • Managing and enforcement of LMS system standards, policies and procedures. 
  • Conduct testing to ensure online courses operate and are tracked correctly. 
  • Manage LMS communication, coordination and support of all training courses. 
  • Monitor course rollouts to ensure expected learner notifications are generated by system. 
  • Follow-up on escalation procedures and workflows as configured on the LMS. 
  • Identify, research and resolve user questions and issues. 
  • Perform ongoing maintenance and data clean-up to ensure data integrity. 
  • Create and share reports based on LMS tracking. 
  • Recommend future system upgrades and stay up to date on emerging technologies and LMS trends. 
  • Upload and maintain learning content. 
  • Ensure the effective management and delivery of eLearning and all online content. 
  • Participates in system test design, system testing and support of the user. 
  • Train other systems administrators on LMS and navigation and use thereof. 
  • Apply learning design and development learning theories. 
  • Create of online learning, quizzes, assessments and surveys using the theory of Blooms Taxonomy. 
  • Actively apply the ADDIE model of Instructional Design throughout the development and delivery of learning materials. 
  • Design and develop blueprints for learning programmes. 
  • Research and implement best practices in the areas of instructional design and e-learning and continuously apply sound instructional design principles and learning theories. 
  • Apply information mapping and content analysis in design of learning materials. 
  • Design and develop systems training and interactive e-learning solutions inclusive of storyboarding and games in e-learning materials. 

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong knowledge of instructional design, development processes, strategies, delivery and evaluation methods. 
  • Knowledge in CBT/WBT (Computer Based Training & Web Based Training) design. 
  • ADDIE model of Instructional Design. 
  • Working knowledge of content development tools such as Articulate, Captivate and Storyline, InDesign, Rise. 
  • Knowledge of eLearning standards (SCORM and AICC); able to troubleshoot issues. 
  • Solid knowledge of course development software and at least one Learning Management System. 
  • Visual design skills (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator) and ability to storyboard. 
  • Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio scripts/video scripts. 
  • Expert knowledge and skills proficiency in adult learning, training and related industry trends. 
  • Proficiency with learning management systems (LMS) and experience with design platforms. 
  • Familiarity with course management systems. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively convey technical information to non-technical colleagues and clients. 
  • Ability to successfully navigate and influence strong personalities within a complex business landscape. 
  • Intermediate/Advanced level proficiency with Moodle/ Totara or any LMS in use. 
  • Expertise in MS-Office products (MS-Word, MS-Excel, PowerPoint). 
  • Working knowledge virtual classroom tools. 
  • Instructional design and Content development. 
  • Bachelor’s Degree -recommended. 
  • Diploma in Education/ Training & Development (preferred). 
  • Web Design qualification
