Installation and Commissioning Technician

SUMMARY:
Candidates must have at least 5 years related industry experience, Grade 12 or equal technical qualification (Artisan - millwright, fitter & turner, electrical (LV) or Control Instrumentation) or assessed equivalent competence. A valid drivers licence and passport is essential.

POSITION INFO:

REQUIREMENTS: 

• Grade 12 or equal Technical Qualification (Artisan) or assessed equivalent competence.
• Trade preferences: Millwright, Fitter & Turner, Electrical (Low voltage) and control, Instrumentation
• At least five years related industry experience- commissioning of plant equipment and preferably in the water industry
• Understanding of processes related to the water industry- ability to read process diagrams
• Understanding of control philosophies
• Valid Driver''s licence.
• Valid passport.
• Travel is an inherent requirement of the job function  -  The incumbent must therefore undergo the necessary medical tests to be declared fit to travel and to work prior to appointment in this position.
• The incumbent must be available to travel locally and internationally for training and work related matters.
• Computer literacy.
• Excellent Administrative skills for the planning, coordination of site activities
• Strong knowledge of piping systems and their construction.
• Excellent knowledge of Control and Instrumentation as all plants are fully automated.
• Water Treatment Process experience would be advantageous.
• Knowledge and understanding of the OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY ACT, ACT 85 OF 1993 as applicable to the installation and commissioning activities
• Strong fault finding and analytic skills for site plant problem solving activities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Support the water techno packages activities by assisting the production team with FAT activities and accassionally manufacturing tasks.
• Predominantly act as a Site Supervisor / Site Technical Advisor in directing and directly assisting the site mechanical and electrical installation teams.
• Perform all site works from installation, cold commissioning, hot commisioning and  finally  performing the  site  acceptance test and handover to prospective clients.

Duties:

• Perform all duties to the latest ISO 9001 Requirements         Function as part of a Team.
• Ensure total confidentiality of all information, internal and external, pertaining to the business,  its clients, all its Employees and Management.
• Communicate with clients, business partners, contractors and suppliers
• Confrontation management and Dispute resolution.
• Management and  assist  all  site workers  and subcontractors appointed for the installation and commissioning
• Carry out service and repairs on equipment nationally and internatonally, specifically into Africa.
• Install and commission plants at various customers both nationally and internationally.
• Review bill of materials (BOM)
• Liaise with Project Engineer and Stores manager prior to shipments to site.
• Manage and control all stock and material issued to the respective sites.
• Responsible for all site activities execution within the agreed timeline, budget and in accordance with project specifications.
• Manage site time and provide daily reporting with reference to site programs
• Notify the Project Engineer of any issues that may affect the installation /commissioning programme and project budget
• Responsible   for  commissioning activities  (hot  and  cold)  and  related documentation.
• Ensure  that  serviced  and  installed /commissioned   plant  and equipment conforms to specifications before hand over.
• Downloading   of  various   PLC  programmes,   operating  of  water  treatment plants via the HMI as well as configuration of the various control settings and inputs.
• Ensure all instrumentation  is installed, calibrated and correctly terminated so as to communicate with the plant PLC.
• Maintain  Safety Precautions Standards
• Manage expenses within set budgets.
• Support and assist with workshop activities, factory, site and performance testing.
• Carry-out   site   audits   to   identify   potential   operational   problems    and performance efficiency improvements on Water Treatment Plants.
• Signing  of  commissioning, beneficial  occupation  and  handover  certificates subject to the written approval of the Project Engineer.
• Adhere to all company policies and procedures that are subject to review from time to time.

Authority

• Participate and assist in Factory Acceptance and Site Acceptance Testing of plant and equipment.
• Attend   and   participate   in  site   installation   and   commissioning   planning meetings internally and as may be required by the client.
• Travel to client and or installation  sites locally or internationally as may  be required.
• Perform risk assessments on sites prior to or during site establishment in line with industry & agreed client requirements.
• Perform safety assessments and maintain all relevant safety documentation for the operational site.
• Manage, supervise and assist where required site activities pertaining to civil interfacing, rigging of equipment into position, mechanical installations and electrical installations.
• Perform installation of equipment when not under the scope of an appointed contractors
• Undertake service and repairs of installations and equipment as may be required during the defects liability period;
• Manage tool registers for company issued tools and equipment
• Record and track site expenses such as but not limited to on-site purchases and travel log sheets;
• Generate  redline   drawings  and   mark   up   any   modifications on   site documentation and drawings issued for installation
• Train client''s operators post installation and commissioning and prior to handover.
