SUMMARY:
Job Purpose:
To provide general and specialized cutting-edge information services to all legible library users so that they become independent information seekers with lifelong learning skills.

POSITION INFO:

Main duties and responsibilities:

• Provide both general and subject-specific information services to library users, including in-depth individual assistance to researchers and students at all levels.
• Assist users in locating and obtaining materials from sources outside the library.
• Provide instruction and assistance in identifying, evaluating, and interpreting appropriate information resources.
• Develop information-seeking skills in library users, enabling them to become more independent researchers.
• Actively engage with faculty, students, and staff in assigned areas, to develop strong working relationships.
• Educate and inform faculty, graduate students, and campus administrators about scholarly communication issues, copyright and their rights as authors.
• Contribute to library social media platforms about library activities.
• Participates in Collection Development

• Proficient Computer Skills
• Excellent practical experience on utilization of electronic information resources, databases and search engines.
• Ability to function independently, autonomously, systematically, accurately, within a team and solve problems, with excellent organising abilities.
• Good interpersonal relations and communication skills.
• The ability to provide training formally as well as informally and liaise with other departments.
• Good time management.

Recommendations

• Willingness to travel to all three University campuses.
• Proven experience in research support.
• Membership of LIASA will be an advantage

Minimum requirements

• B Bibl degree or equivalent LIS qualification,
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the provision of information and research support services in an academic library.

NB: The position may require a person to work shifts and weekend where necessary.
