IT Technician ( Zululand )

SUMMARY:
Our client is looking for an IT Technician to join their team at the reserve based in Zululand. The candidate must be able to live in at the lodge. Position available immediately to the successful candidate. Candidate must relocate at their own expense.

POSITION INFO:

General description:

Joint Operation Centre (JOC) Support Technician will interact frequently with the Reserve management, field security and other field staff. It''s important to be clear and concise in JOC communications. Will also work very closely with the Equipment supplier support teams and as such need to develop a good all-round understanding of systems and networks. These result in a highly diverse range of duties for the JOC - our Technicians are required to ensure they are fulfilled in a timely, co-operative and professional manner.

 

Minimum Requirements:

• Matric
• Valid driver’s license
• Tertiary qualifications in IT Support or equivalent 
• Minimum 2 - 4  years working experience in IT Support role that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified

Areas of Responsibility:

• To ensure maximum possible service availability and performance of the Reserve Network & Infrastructure
• To Monitor and report security issues using security tools available, such as CCTV and field monitoring systems
• To provide support services to end users and attend to infrastructure breakdowns in the field

Job Functions: (not limited to):

• Manage and maintain the Reserve network and infrastructure
• Fault handling and escalation (identifying and responding to faults on our systems and networks liaising with 3rd party suppliers, handling escalation through to resolution).
• Provisioning (IP assignment, core network configuration, DNS setup, etc.)
• Server build and installs, application upgrades, network equipment build and installation. Maintaining hardware serial audits, writing custom monitoring plugins and configuring bespoke graphing.
• Facilities maintenance monitoring usage, running health and safety and housekeeping checks at POP’s
• Facilities provisioning (installing racks, setting up power, installing ethernet, fibre and console cabling, remote power and KVM).
• Maintenance of technical documentation (for JOC) of processes and procedures used throughout normal operations.
• Development of knowledge and skills in network and system administration, particularly with regard to our own architecture and platforms.
• Participate in a 24x7 rota.
• ·Proven track record within a NOC or ISP environment.
• Experience with switching and internet routing technologies (to junior network administrator level).
• Experience configuring internet applications such as Apache, Exim, and BIND.
• Knowledge & experience of network monitoring tools and protocols (MRTG, RRD, NAGIOS, SNMP).
• Exposure to scripting basics. Experience of scripting (Perl, Bash) and other web application languages (SQL, PHP).
• Ability to collate and interpret data from various sources.
• Strong network diagnostic skills.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concise in Zulu and English.
