Our client is looking to employ an IT Technician to join their dynamic team.  This is an office-based vacancy.



POSITION INFO:

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The key functions include and are not limited to the following:

  • Setup workstations with computers and necessary peripheral devices (routers, printers, etc.)
  • Check computer hardware (HDD, mouses, keyboards, etc.) to ensure functionality
  • Install and configure appropriate software and functions according to specifications
  • Develop and maintain local networks in ways that optimize performance
  • Ensure security and privacy of networks and computer systems
  • Provide orientation and guidance to users on how to operate new software and computer equipment
  • Organize and schedule upgrades and maintenance without deterring others from completing their work
  • Perform troubleshooting to diagnose and resolve problems (repair or replace parts, debugging, etc.)
  • Maintain records / logs or repairs and fixes and maintenance schedule
  • Identify computer or network equipment shortages and place orders
  • Provide 1st level IT Support (assisting with basic MS Windows / MS Office software issues, setup of new users and new computers and supporting the IT Helpdesk)
  • Provide 2nd level IT Support (advanced MS Windows / MS Office software, computer hardware and networking faults) to users in the company
  • Ability to assist in supporting all of the company’s offices and camps (traveling into Africa, e.g. Tanzania, and / or any other locations, as needed)
  • Monitoring of security practices / procedures and acting as site a security champion
  • Performs systems monitoring and assists in backup procedures
  • Assists the IT Helpdesk with hardware and software installations and troubleshooting of LAN / WAN systems
  • Assists the IT Helpdesk with hardware and software installations and troubleshooting on server hardware
  • Monitors server room environmental equipment such as air conditioning and humidity control
  • Coordinates and schedules work with external service providers (internet providers, printer providers)
  • Coordinates repairs and collections of laptops / desktops with computer hardware suppliers
  • Coordinates tagging and keeping inventory of all equipment in the Cape Town office
  • Office 365 support
  • MS Cloud services support
  • VEEAM Backup
  • Hyper V support and setup
  • And any other assigned duties by your superior


REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB HOLDER
 

Education and Professional Qualifications – REQUIRED

  • A+ / N+
  • MCSE / MCTIP


Education and Professional Qualifications – Advantageous

  • Azure Fundamentals or higher certification
  • Microsoft 365 Certified Fundamentals certification


Essential Skills

  • 4 to 5 Years’ experience working in an IT position for a medium to large size enterprise (more than 150 employees)
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems which include Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and good knowledge of Windows 10
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory and Microsoft Exchange environment and Azure
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office 2007, 2010, 2013 and good knowledge of Office 2016
  • Any knowledge of Apple Mac (IOS, MacOS) would be an advantage
  • Good knowledge of SAGE
  • Very good knowledge of networking, able to provide support and troubleshooting of LAN / WAN systems. Good understanding and working knowledge (able to setup and troubleshoot) networking concepts like TCP / IP, Subnets, Routers, Switches.  Good knowledge of WiFi standards, able to setup and troubleshoot wireless networks.  Good knowledge of VPN and Firewall configurations
  • Should also be able to make a network cable
  • Basic knowledge of printer and scanner troubleshooting
  • Good knowledge of Cloud based services and setup
  • Hyper V setup and support
  • Neat and Punctual (well-kept, arriving on time and able to manage time)
  • Adaptable and reliable
  • Team Player who is also self-sufficient (working well with others, but also complete a task without constant supervision)
  • Very good communication skills with excellent customer service approach (able to communicate clearly and explain IT issues to end users)
  • A genuine eagerness / willingness to learn


Other Requirements

Valid passport as the vacancy includes occasional travel into Africa when required.
