Description

 

The Infrastructure Project Manager is a pivotal role that directs and manages effective resourcing and workload allocation across the Ulwembu Group Holdings. The role is to deliver an effective, secure and resilient Group ICT Infrastructure that supports the Group’s organisational requirements as well as our clients requirements, providing Voice, Cloud, Wireless and Data Networks and ICT equipment, including servers, PCs, phones, printers and mobile devices. This is not a traditional project role, you will be involved in requirement gathering at the early stages of projects with new and existing customers within projects. The Infrastructure Project Manager must have telecommunications and networking expertise, leadership, managerial skills, computer proficiency, problem-solving orientation, and teamwork. The Infrastructure Project Manager will manage all Ulwembu Holding clients and subsidiaries and is required for a maximum of 150 hours per month.

 

Position Requirements

 

Strategy & Planning

 

  • Managing complex ICT Infrastructure Projects,
  • Assuming responsibility in key areas such as risk and issues management, requirements management, and release management, including escalation as appropriate,
  • Delivering high profile, complex ICT projects in the ICT infrastructure environment, in accordance with the department''s framework and methodologies,
  • Managing project budgets and schedules and preparation of project financial forecasts,
  • And provide strategic guidance, leadership to team members including developing, coaching and mentorship of junior or less experienced staff to ensure appropriate skills transfer.

Responsibilities

  • Proven experience managing ICT Infrastructure Projects within a structured IT governance framework,
  • Highly developed leadership, motivation, problem solving and management skills,
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the ES ICT Strategy, Plans and Policies as a member of the ES Team
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, particularly relevant in translating technical information to non-technical peers and stakeholders
  • Strong documentation writing skills around plans and processes, standard operating procedures and build and configuration guides
  • Creating, monitoring and maintaining project management documents covering all project plans, deliverables, milestones, activities, and quality assurance methods; adjusting the plan and project documents when needed; providing leadership, instruction, and motivation to project team members,
  • High level of management skills including the ability to lead, plan and mentor to produce high standards of results on budget within tight timeframes,
  • Assigning duties, responsibilities and scope of authority to project personnel,
  • Dividing project activities into work packages and tasks, and assigning these to the responsible internal and external groups,
  • Directly managing internal work packages, and liaising with vendors and external consultants on their assigned work packages,
  • Establishing and implementing the project Communications Plan and coordinating with stakeholders including the technical implementation teams, external vendors and business units,
  • Ensure that ICT Service Desk team’s knowledge is kept up to date with project deliverables,
  • Provide regular verbal and written reports to management on ICT service levels, planned maintenance, issues and data.
  • Following ICTS standards and procedures for project management and documentation, including PRINCE2 and PMBOK
  • Lead internal projects to improve service

Requirements

  • Proven experience in comparable role within an ISP or Telecoms organisation
  • Previous extensive experience of managing ICT Technical Infrastructure Projects
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to analyse problems, issues & needs and provide robust but adaptable solutions which meet current and future requirements
  • Ability to cope with changing environment, including adapting to meet emergency business-critical events
  • Effectively plans and organizes own workload and self-motivated
  • Capable of working under pressure/using own initiative with minimal supervision
  • Team player, who contributes ideas and suggestions for improvement
  • Keen interest in leading edge ISP technologies
  • Previous supplier management experience essential
  • Experience of ITIL is desirable
  • Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Able to conduct research into networking issues and products as required.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Able to effectively prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Must have Information Technology or Telecommunications industry certification like PMBOK or PRINCE 2 and ITIL
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to multi-task in a structure format
  • Strong interpersonal skills in both oral and written communication
  • 3-5 years of applicable experience required;

Measuring the performance of a ICT Infrastructure Project Manager

It is important to measure both the effectiveness and the efficiency of the network management process.

  • Making sure that project is done on time and if it’s not, tracking where it’s off-target is important so you can always have a mitigation plan and processes.
  • Making sure that projects stay under the budget that has been allocated and implement ways of saving cost.
  • Making sure that resource planning and allocation is done correctly to support the project
  • Making sure that you spending your time and money appropriately, or could you be managing the project more effectively.
  • Lower support costs resulting from a more proactive help desk and technical support infrastructure
  • Identify Gaps in your current architecture
  • Leverage existing organizational resources
  • Knowledge-article contribution
